I am fairly new to this and to some of you season vets, probably naive in may aspects. Which brings me to my point of this thread.

This hobby brings many pleasures but not without its risks. My question is, what is your biggest worry/risk about partaking in this hobby and what do you do to lessen your exposure to it? and if you did end up in a situation what is your plan B?

Some risk that i can think off the top of my head are:

Health such as STIs... do you get yourself checked regularly, if so how often?
being scammed out of your money
Bait and switch
Run ins with the local law reinforcements (not sure if that is an issue in the lower mainland)
A significant other or family that you did not want finding out
having a bad experience with a provider
financial risk due to over indulgence

I am just hoping to learn a bit before a newbie like myself dive in, maybe you could bring my attention to some risk that i am unaware of, or a solution that others might not have thought of.

Hopefully by the end, we can compile something useful that may benefit the community.

Each pooner might rate the risks differently. Personally speaking, it’s the fear of being caught by SO. Yea fear of over indulgence is always there and that’s why I work within a yearly budget (with a soft cap).
STI is not really a worry because I get checked regularly.
Risk of a Bad experience, b&s, scam is not much of a fear because I rarely toftt. Thanks to PERBites, I mostly see reputable ladies.
Run ins with LE is not really a factor in Vancouver and surrounding areas as long as you are not into SW’s.

It basic math, the higher the number of partners the higher the risk. Getting tested regularly doesn't protect you from catching anything.

My biggest concern is HPV infection and its delayed impact.

Shutdown in 3,2,1...

I know the way i pose the question seem ignorant to some, but i did so in order to cast a wider net. Like i said earlier i wanted to find out some risk that i might not be aware of, and it is difficult to search for something that you are unaware of. Yes, you might run into some information randomly as you are browsing the forums, however some risk might be higher than others. If you book an appointment with a provider without searching for reviews and you end up getting poor service, its not too big of a deal. Some other risks however are less forgiving, such as contracting an STI, as some do stay with you for life.

Sometimes certain information may slip through the cracks, as the search function on the forum may yield too many results and some of them might not be relevant. Other times some information might not show up on the search that contains useful information, as i have notice most members use acronyms that might not fulfill the 4 characters in the search bar such as STI, LE, cop, b&s .... etc.

I am also hoping that when a experienced member share their method of minimizing risk, another member would be able to give further suggestions to tweak the method that might further insulate them from risk.

I really appreciate everyone that has commented so far and look forward to learning more as this thread progresses.

HIV is (or can be) an almost non-issue for people in this hobby, so long as you make a couple distinctions.
80% of people who have HIV/AIDS fall into 2 categories:
1. Men who have had sex with men. (They word it this way so as not to offend anyone of whatever orientation with which they may identify)
2. Intravenous drug users.
Furthermore, less than 1 in 250 women in Canada has HIV, and that in consideration of the fore-mentioned. Therefore, rounding up to 1 in 250, and assuming 80% of those are Intravenous drug users, that's... 1 in a thousand! Of course, you might spot her as potentially high risk and then walk, or you might not. So then we move on to the effectiveness of condoms...
Worry about herpes or HPV, but if you're having protected sex with women and try to keep a keen eye, HIV is probably not a concern far beyond SARS.

I always wonder what people are thinking when I read this.

Since when do regular checkups prevent a STI. There are obvious immense benefits to regular checkups but prevention is not one of them.

When the doc says "yup...it is herpes (HPV)" I hope most of the attached guys are in a sexless relationship.

Rolling into bed with a SO and passing along crabs is not life threatening...at least not for her.

Everyone has their own risk tolerance but it is important to not be naive about those risks and mindful that we sign up for them but the wife or GF didn't.

So what do you suggest Dr Elmore?
:)
Use condoms: Yes
Maintain Hygiene: Yes
Regular Checks : Yes
Know The Symptoms: Yes

I guess quitting pooning could be the inly option!

If he was a Dr he'd very likely tell you to find another hobby, admit that with this one you're rolling the dice. Suggestions regarding health are not allowed here and to suggest testing as a prevention is as bad as any advise ever suggested here.

I think the basics.
don't give a lot of info to the sp,
such as job, net worth or wealth.

one ladies husband at last account was in jail
he was trying to bribe the woman's client out of some valuable art work,
so best advice don't go in wearing a rolex watch, and bragging how dam rich you are,
keep it to yourself,

um I have stories about guys being out'ed to family and wife,
so keep as much personal info, as you can to yourself

but be aware, if she wants to the lady can find out who you are,
some lady said her security cam has my licence plate she threatened me once,
even though she stood me up, and all I asked was what happened,
never assume she can't find out who you are.

um the best thing is though,

follow your gut feelings.
some ladies talk to much,
one lady wanted to get to know me, so we met for drinks,
and she started revealing clients name and other guys, not hiding their name their handle where they work etc,
that was the last time I saw her,

one lady bragged how she could ruin a guys life, how easy it would be,
she was as they say dead to me.

the lady I see,
I trust her,
she is a pro, for many years,
she knows the number one rule in this, is privacy.

you find someone you trust,
its worth sticking with her,

100% agree - with no previous posting history, this person to me is highly suspect with no good intentions at all.
