Guys:

I will be visiting Vancouver and wanted some recommendations for moderate priced hotels that are safe, clean and moderately priced for pooning ($60 to $70 US per night, if possible). Close access to any public transportation (subway, underground, etc) would also be helpful.

What can I expect to pay (in US $) for hotels downtown? Is that a good area to be staying for easy access to the various SPs (incall and outcall)? Again, nothing fancy: just a comfy bed, safe area and clean (something akin to Best Western or similar in Canada)?

I went to Vancouver twice last year. The first place I went to was the "Metropolaton" in downtown Vancouver, clean, upscale but outside of most people's price range.
Another place I went to was the Patricia on Hastings. Very cheap. Old charming building that was built 100 years ago with these cute tiny rooms, clean but the hotel is situated on the worst street in Vancouver where lots of crack ho's and crazy people wander around. At night looking out your window you'd see lots of pretty weird stuff. On the plus side, you're right next to Chinatown and a short walk to Gastown and the no 5 strip club.

www.geocities.com
Hastings Steam & Sauna Co Ltd, 766 E Hastings St. ($25 an hour sauna rooms)cnd
unnamed hotel, 1610 Franklin St. ($25)cnd
City Centre Motor Hotel, 2111 Main St. ($58)cnd
Biltmore Motor Hotel, 395 Kingsway. ($59)cnd
London Guard Motor Inns, 2227 Kingsway. ($59)cnd

The unnamed hotel is kinda iffy for some ppl because it's right on mid track so it's not the greatest if your looking for discretion!

holy cow guys are you the last of the big spenders? Under $70 a night?? Man, I'd be afraid to catch something in a place that cheap plus those establishments aren't really going to impress the ladies (unless you're going low rent)

A friend stayed at the Days Inn on KG Hwy and I was quite impressed by the suite and it was under 100 cookies.

Another option is get an Entertainment Book and use the hotels listed which entitles you to a 50% discount.

vancouver
Burrard Motor Inn
Bosmans (?)
The Regal (low end)
Shawnessy Village
The Murray (low end)
Lamplighter (low end)

Out of them all I would say Shawnessy Village to be best.

Drove down Kingsway a few weeks ago on the way home, and noticed that the Biltmore Motor Hotel on Kingsway had a "Howard Johnson" sign on the parking entrance, and the big sign on the Hotel in no longer there......can not confirm if Howard Johnson took over or not, but it looks like it. If that is the case, Biltmore would no longer be "cheap".

Cheers.
