I was concerned last night when the panthers were up 3-0 at the end of the first period. I was concerned when the panthers tied up the game with 19.5 seconds left in the game but the Oilers persevered. Admittedly Draisaitl’s OT goal was a bit of a lucky one but the Oilers going back to Edmonton with some momentum.

after the 1st period Oilers looked deader than an Edsel. But,,this is what makes sports so great, the ya-never-know factor.
pundits saying Oliers have the momentum but old Mo is as fickle as a gold-digger in Thailand.
It's down to best-of-three and predict at your peril.
damn good series!

Leon Draisaitl
The man is a machine out there, one of the strongest power forwards anywhere.
Yeah, he got some luck on that OT goal but that was a one handed shot with Greer another power forward, all over him.

I thought Paul Maurice's interview after the game was the best way to sum up the series:
paraphrasing from memory
"great for the game" best players in the world" "at the boards, the speed, anything can happen" "Its Christmas"
Man is he a class act or what.

I liked Maurice when he was coaching the Jets, too bad he left there. They might have been in the finals had he stayed.

the Canada Cup thread covered people's thoughts very well.
Facebook had(has?) some hilarious posts from guys who don't know a puck from a pecker, the conspiracy theories etc.
to me, when it gets down to where the cheese starts to bend....the Panthers are the better team.
Oilers fans can take solace in that the Panthers are also better than the other 30 teams.

in other areas, Lions-Bombers rematch Saturday avvo, dunno if the upper deck will be open, roof s/b open?

Curling, although not as popular as football or basketball, is an exciting sport that requires strategic thinking and teamwork, and can be a real discovery for those looking for something new and interesting. After an exciting day full of sporting events, a great way to relax is to immerse yourself in the world of entertainment, such as Sweepstakes, offered by the sixty6 platform, where you can enjoy exciting games without financial risk. By visiting the sixty6 website, you will discover a new way to have fun and excitement, which will be a great end to your day.
I tend to seek out sex as a great end to my day. Every now and then I hit the Sweepstakes too ...

Evander Kane traded to the Canucks.
Impact player, power forward and a guy who can spend a lot of time in the penalty box.
Despite some of his antics, I for one liked him wherever he was playing.

yes, there's been some controversy in some of his stops but I've always had a liking for him when,as an 18 yr old rookie,he ko'd Matt Cooke.

Canucks are champs!never thought I'd see that written anywhere.way to go Abbottsford! not gonna hold my breath waiting for the parent team to do the same.
NHL draft and free agency coming soon,s/b interesting moves ahead.

since Friday night the Blue Jays have the best record in the majors.Read that again, slowly, then check the calendar to ensure it is not April 1st.
Dunno know how long before the carriage reverts to a pumpkin but fun while it happens.

Tigers, Yankess, and, to a lesser degree, the Dodgers are all going through trying times after a hot 1st half.
Long way to go before the post-season, s/b some trades in the next few days.

Let's revive this thread as lots going on.

MLB Down to last 4 teams, not to be unpatriotic but a Brewers-Mariners WS would see a 1st time champ.
Dodgers will be hard to beat, imo.

NFL Quite a few upsets already, the any-given-Sunday thing I guess?
Lots of football to go and I don't know if any team is standing out as team-to-beat status?

CFL Also has seen many upsets.
Sask has 1st place and hosts Western Final but after that things have lots of possibilities.

Montreal or Hamilton will get 1st and the other will host a Western team in the Crossover.

NHL only cpl games in so too early to say much.

Do you have predictions on any of the above?

I was (am) pulling for the Jays but that display last night of the Mariners shutting down the Jay's bats was impressive.
NHL - no predictions at all until well into the New Year.
NFL - different season this time around. Things will start aligning the in the second half of the season.
CFL - still an exciting product - sure would be nice to see the Esks get their Esks name back. The rules changes for next year ... well fuck what can anyone say.

No way I am predicting anything not being a betting man but if I was with the odds are all over the map, any prediction seems to be a long shot.

Hands up anyone who thought back in April that the Jays would go to the World Series .if your hand is up you're lying through your teeth. From last place with a 74-88 record to the big dance.Friday night
They will be heavy underdogs against the Dodgers but upsets happen in sports, you never know.

The final positioning in the CFL is going right to the wire.Hamilton has the tie-breaker with Mtl so if they win,or Mtl lose, Ticats get 1st place in the East.
Sask has 1st place, Edm is eliminated, and the situation for Lions,Stamps and Bombers has many possibilities, which someone on Facebook listed the various possibilities.
If Calgary lose on Friday night, it gets resolved..Lions get 2nd place, Stamps are 3rd and Bombers go East for the crossover

Canucks are off to a better start than in previous years but injuries are starting to pile up.I wonder if Chytil might be done as he's had too many concussions?

there's a separate World Series thread so I'll just say "go,Jays!"

CFL playoffs are set,Calgary comes to Vancouver, winner goes to marry-your-sister, Saskatchewan for West Final
Bombers are the crossover, going to Mtl,woth the winner going to the Hammer.
Bombers might have an easier path than Stamps or Lions cuz both the Als and Ticats have been inconsistent

A Bombers-Riders GC in Wpg would Rock!

NFL approaching halfway mark,Patriots,Colts,Bucs surprisingly good,Ravens going in the other direction, beset with injuries.

Whitecaps start playoff journey tonight, big crowd anticipated.

Weigh in on these and other sports, egEuropean soccer,NBA,etc.
