Random Email From Provider

Hi everyone!
Just wondering, have you ever had a provider reach out to you after months or even years? What is the etiquette in replying and couldnt this maybe lead to some domestic troubles? I understand that most everyone has other emails and burner numbers but I was kind of caught off guard especially with a reply I have recently made.
Is it rude to ask for some sort of verification that this is in fact the person and not maybe some jealous partner or scam?

Not rude at all , its called having a healthy boundary.

Yeah I just want to be sure This was someone that I 100% was actually dying to see again and turns out I will be in BC for a bit. So its not really something that bothered me BUT, I just want to make sure I can do my own verifying without coming off as rude. I also wasnt sure if this was some sort of known scam that I needed to be aware of.
