I feel that the reasons that posters come and go are many. There is an ebb and flow to life on perb that is often in your face like a tidal storm, other times glassy and calm. Some of the 'goodbye' threads have provided explanations, others are more private, and the most private of all are those who quietly cease posting and just whisper away.
While I appreciate the sentiments of this poll, I think the choices are limiting and would rather see a poll that had many more choices and allowed you to select multiple reasons.
In July I felt like I had to leave perb for personal reasons, couldn't see myself staying addicted to seeking out new pleasures. The financial and emotional costs were much higher than I could continue to stomach. After a couple of weeks I was able to return under the same handle but with much more self-awareness.
It didn't take a 12-step program to realize that I missed my friends in this community and could stake out new territory in the Lounge without feeling the pressure of reviewing. The discussions we had about so many 'philosophical' and 'taboo' topics in the past few months were life-affirming rather than stifling and there will be more to come.
I am totally against the posters who complain about the participants in the Lounge and insist that the only good poster is one who shares tips about who gives the best bbbj. New posters are starting to contribute more as experienced posters step back. It's simply the natural cycle within a community.
Some leave because they crave more affection than temporal relationships allow, or have exhausted the possibilities in seeking the perfect gfe. The fortunate ones find love in the real world.
Others go broke, flame out through conflicts, or play out some personal drama needing attention at that moment in their lives, feeling a lack of fulfillment. I don't think lying enters into the discussion, except for those posters who disappear under one handle and immediately pop again under another.
There are many types of needs and desires and levels of maturity operating at any one time on perb or in any real-life community. Hopefully, if some of my good friends like Vancouverman feel they need to sign off we will hear from them again and will welcome them back with open arms.
