Okay, I was going to wait for a final phone call Monday, but I'm tired of all this talk.
On Friday, I went to the VPD headquarters on Main Street, and spoke with the Public Service counter rep there. No info. Won't comment on anything. The VPD does not comment on on-going investigations, etc. but puts me in touch with the Office of Freedom of Information and Privacy.
I phoned there when I got home, and contacted a very helpful lady there. She explained that the policy is that they're not allowed to confirm, nor deny, anything about any case OR LACK OF A CASE within the Vancouver Police Department. Information is only released to the victim or interested parties (those named in the report) and is not commented on in any way to any other individual or organization about any case under investigation, on-going investigations, or those before the courts. The only way information is released is after the case has been closed, and that information is only released through the VPD Office of Freedom of Information and Privacy.
At the same time, she did allow that, in certain situations, information may be revealed that there is nothing of that nature currently under investigation, but really hemmed and hawed at saying that. She finally gave me Sgt. Arith's direct number, to follow up directly with her.
I phoned that number on Friday afternoon, and the voice mail informed me that Sgt. Arith works Monday to Thurs. I leave a message for her to return my call, explaining the situation. I had also called the Sexual Offense office earlier, receiving a voice mail, but I wanted to speak directly with the officer that fullhouse dealt with. I half expect to have the call returned Monday, as the office seems to have been innundated with inquiries.
For the record, I was never questioning fullhouse. I was quite suprised when I was told at the VPD headquarters that they never release information. Never. Under no circumstances. That got me wondering, but once I spoke to Freedom of Information and Privacy, and got the hesitant admission that sometimes things slip (her term, and immediately retracted), and then directed me to Sgt. Arith, I could tell that all information was correct. I feel bad that I was doubting fullhouse for a time, but it set itself straight. Let me point out that I don't have to mention that; it happened, why not admit it.
I don't know if the Sgt will call me back, but for all the doubters, THAT'S the reason for the delay. I wanted to speak directly with the officer that spoke with fullhouse. He got good info; he wanted it verified; I was trying to verify it, and can't speak to her until Monday.
fullhouse, thanks for the effort you put in to find out the truth. We'll never know it, I think. At this point, I don't really care what the truth is. I didn't donate a huge amount of money ($300). Some assault really did take place. There were subterfuges and untruths in relating the events. I donated money to help someone. If I gave it to a charity, and they spent it on marketing or an investment that tanked, I'd never know. In this case, I do. I don't like it, but it's time to move on.
Hope that clears up any confusion. And for the record: this is, of course, now completely fucking redundant, since Isabelle has put a cap on this already.
Now I'm going to forget all about this crap and get on with my life.
Cheers, and have fun!
