this was my late fathers secret (god bless the dead) during the day take 2 whole garlic cloves peel and boil in about a cup of water til softened, drink and swallow whole cloves (lots of mouthwash lol) then that nite before you go to bed boil a cup of rum, drink it all. wrap a scarf around your neck, put socks on your feet and be fully clothed (not too sexy huh) and be prepared to sweat.....by morning you should be good as new. always works for me and coming from being a mom i do the garlic cocktail on my kids with the overly clothed thing then put to bed and it works amazingly well. also it's a good habit to get into drinking green tea at least once a day, keeps you really healthy, i haven't been sick in about 3 years. hope that helps.
This is about the best home remedy for fighting colds that you can find.
Add chicken soup like suggested here in earlier threads for daytime meals.
Remember that discussion you and I had Tianna about Irish whiskey?
Well a good hot toddy with a tablespoon of honey and a good amount of
lemon juice, real lemon juice, not that phony imitation stuff, willl help
cure the sore throat amazingly and put you to rest like a baby at night.
Yes keep warm above all, sweat it out and plenty of fluids with the green
tea being a major contributor to a healthy body all year 'round.
Green Tea with a shot of Irish ain't bad either.

But don't forget to add
the honey and lemon.
Catching a cold or flu is where you have to think about boosting the
immune system whether it be before or during to help kill off the virus.
That's the key and plenty of rest to keep your energy at optimum will
help do the trick.
Hopefully you'll have a tip top 'mornin lass. Best of luck sweetheart and
keep warm.
