Hey all,

I'm gearing up for the spring. I've spent the last couple of summers walking and climbing around the Baden-Powell Trail around Horseshoe Bay and the Deep Cove/Mount Seymour regions, and in the Lynn Valley. Anyone have any recommendations on other great trails around? I'm not particularly interested in the Grind... too many people around. I get out there for the seclusion.

Any info appreciated!

Cheers, and have fun.

When I saw the thread title I thought I'd tell you about the Baden-Powell on the Deep Cove end.. see you've already discovered it!

Pretty amazing view from there, isn't it!!!

Wow! The view from on top of Black Mountain is incredible out over the Bay.

Funny thing: I took the "right" way up, from Horseshoe Bay. When I got to the top, <puff, puff> I'm confronted with all of these Japanese tourists, aged about 50-60 years old! WTF?!

I had no idea there was an easier trail up from Cypress Bowl! :p

Wouldn't have taken it anyways... :D

Cheers,

There's a great trail from the top of the British Properties to Cypress Bowl. It's at the corner of Millstream and Eyremont Dr. It goes to the cross country ski area, through some old growth trees and West Lake. Prolly lots of snow on the trail right now though.

All of the good trails on the North Shore are still very much covered in snow, even at lower elevations. If you're planning doing anything in the next couple of months, make sure you are prepared for winter backcountry conditions. Right now you will still need crampons at minimum (snowshoes in some cases).

One really great day hike is from Lynn Headwaters to Grouse, via the Hanes Valley Route, but it's not usually accessible until closer to the summer. It's definitely for the more experienced hiker, and not to be done alone. You'd also want to plan ahead and leave a vehicle at either end. Best is to start from Lynn Valley. Eventually you end up at the top of Dam Mountain, which leads you down the switchbacks to the Grouse Mountain Resort. Then you can have a beer and some food at the restaurant, before taking the tram down to your car.
