This info is valid from 2009-October to present, 2011-January, in BC, as far as I have been able to determine.
If you want anonymous testing for Herpes and you are willing to pay for it, the first step is to visit a health clinic http://www.stiresource.com/clinics/index.php and talk to the Doctor who will probably work through may details with you regarding what info the test can give you and what that info may mean for you. If you both agree to go ahead with a test then the Doctor can give you a requisition for testing at LifeLabs (www.lifelabs.com 604-431-7206, 1-800-431-7206, Kevin Campbell) using a fake name and date of birth. (Testing at a Health Authority may not work because they may not be able to accept cash or other payment. More info to follow possibly.)
There are two possible tests.
“Herpes Serology” for $20 will give you a single positive or negative result for the presence of HSV 1 or 2. If the result is negative then you probably don’t have either. If the result is positive then you probably have either (or both?) type 1 or 2. You won’t know which.
“Herpes Type 1 or 2 Typing” for $120 will give you a positive or negative result for type 1 and a second positive or negative result for type 2.
The LifeLabs staff will be confused by a requisition that lacks a Personal Health Number, even if all the other blanks were filled in with believable fake info. They have no recognized process for anonymous HSV testing. At the same time I have confirmed that there is nothing to prevent such testing. The bottom line is that they want to comply with the Doctor’s direction and you are paying the bill. My requisition had obviously fake name and date of birth info and nothing else. You pay cash and give them a blood sample. They send the results to the Doctor who is identified on the requisition. The Doctor gives you the results.
I did this in Victoria but it should work the same throughout BC.
