I went to an SP here in Winnipeg based out of an apartment. Parked and was given a keypass. Went to the door and they had a new security system with a video camera.

The screen included a full high def picture of my face on video and asked for the keypass code. There was no way of entering the keypass without a glorious full colour high def image of my face being captured. I thought about it for a second and walked away without entering a passcode. That keypass with a picture of my face would link me to apartment and would be presumably available to anyone at the push of a button. Call me paranoid but I don’t like that idea.

Now, I get it, this has nothing to do with the SP but my question is: is this becoming more common? What do you fellas think of it?

I will take every precaution and avoid any scenario with video to the best of my ability.

I understand your concerns, but remember that whenever you step outside your home, you're likely captured by a variety of surveillance cameras. These include your neighbor's doorbell camera, traffic and business cameras, dash cams, and even the cameras at ATMs when you make a transaction. Don't forget, your cellphone is also tracking your whereabouts.

Lots of new office buildings have facial recognition plus pass card access. It’s so nobody can use a stolen card.

It’s two factor authentication.

Nobody has to look very far in order to come to the realization that we are in a surveillance state, and this is the case in all countries including the USA.
The USA does, however, have the largest infrastructure to analyze the surveilled data (the NSA), so one could say it is the most surveilled state.

I dealt with this recently. went to a SP who had a camera doorbell. I was paranoid at first because when I tried to stay away from the camera, she messaged and told me to stand infront of it first. She mentioned it was due to verification and her privacy/safety, to ensure she did not know me personally so not a big deal.

It's fine if you walked away but also do understand that it is common as well.

Ring doorbells are for that person. Where it gets a little tricky is condos like the OP encountered. Pictures of entry linked to unit numbers. If 100 different folks come to unit 301 in 3 months it means someone is running a home based business. If the Condo corp assumes they are running a hair cutting place no problem for visitors, if the condo corp assumes human trafficking probably still no problem for visitors but also maybe your picture makes it into a police file. Most likely it results in a condo corp busy body just harassing the lease holder

Personally I’d be freaked out by this if I wasn’t prepared for it as a client. Surveillance cameras are one thing, and I can understand the ring doorbell for a homeowner/tenant’s personal use, but my face in HD linked to visiting a specific person in the building is beyond my comfort zone.

I don’t know why an SP would choose a condo with this for an outcall location though? Usually they want to be just as discreet as we clients do. The condo corp are clearly going to have records and know that she’s seeing way more visitors than other tenants, mostly guys, and at all hours of the day. It won’t take long for someone to notice and figure out what business she’s in. Unless the building mgmt is sex work friendly and knows what’s going on already?
