I got a message while I was at work today from my ex- a little back story: we met last april and dated until just before new years which was why I wasn't hobbying for so long, wanted to be loyal and shit. Anyways long story short I didn't find out until just after Christmas that she lied and that she actually has a three year old kid (this is while I was planning to let her movie in with me WTF) and that she's actually been seeing her ex. I'm pretty sure she slept with him and that I got trickle truthed by her. So we texted today and she demands I give her back the ipad she bought me for my birthday cause she wants to give it to her kid for his birthday next month. I get mad and tell her no but change my mind and say that if she wants it back so badly then she has to return all the gifts I gave her ($300 swarovski necklace, $500 tiffany earrings, ugly ass coach bag and a samsung s3). She flips out and says she's going to call the cops and tell them I stole it from her and that she'll tell my friends family and work that I see escorts.

I'm not too worried about the ipad because I can prove it was a gift cause I still have the birthday card but I'm worried about her talking, especially to my work and family. I'm thinking of going to the RCMP or something and telling them she's trying to blackmail me but I'm not sure cause I don't want a record or anything. Really pissed off and angry plus I'm coming down with the goddamn flu so I don't know what to do. :doh:

Stupid me didn't delete internet history. Not used to it because I live alone. She went through my browser when she was at my place and I was honest with her about it, didn't think she'd try to use it against me but then again I didn't think she'd turn out to be such a backstabbing bitch.

What you should do is file an attempted blackmail report with your local police and give them copies of the text messages.

Of course you won't, so just give her the iPad. Sanitize it first. Clear out the memory, take the Sim out and destroy it. That way she she can't continue using it on an account you are paying for. Ensure that you turn in all of your credit cards and debit cards and get new ones with new numbers. Do a "Financial Responsibility" notice in a local newspaper. (it runs for 2 weeks and ensures that if she uses your info to get a credit card, you won't have to pay her bills)

I would ignore her. If you give the ipad back, maybe next week she has a new demand. She sounds very bitter, so its not unlikely.
If she told my friends I pooned, I wouldn't really care. If she told my family. I would tell them "She is very upset with me, we were going to move in together, then I found out all this time she had a child that was part of the deal...........so I ended things"
The only reason an ex would tell something like that to my family is because the lady is very angry and bitter (or I guess like in your case financial blackmail). So my family would believe my story 100% that she is just making a story she thinks will get everyone mad at me.

As a few others have stated, go to the Police & report her for harassment & blackmail. Nip this in the butt NOW before it becomes a real nightmare! Let the Police do their job. If she continues to harass you, keep all the records & file a restraining order against her.

If your ex is stupid enough to start trash talking you to co-workers, friends & family for not getting your ipad, ultimately she will end up looking like the vindictive, spiteful little brat that she truly is. I would think that those who care about you would see that this person is just out to hurt you. If you follow through with a police report, or multiple reports if it continues, then it just further backs your side of the story, not hers.

If you were to give her the ipad in the hopes of avoiding any unnecessary & further drama, there is no way of knowing that she will go away. Once she knows she has that power & control over you it would be easy for her to start making other demands.

And what do you do then? What happens when you decide to put your foot down & she decides (theoretically) to make up false allegations about you? What happens if you haven't documented this ongoing blackmail with the police & she suddenly decides to make up a story that you assaulted her & that's why you guys broke up???????

If there is no Police history to back up your side of the story against this psycho then you might be up shit creek without a paddle.

Unless she gives consent, I don't think taping her helps at all and is possibly illegal.

My advice: Talk to the cops about being black mailed with any proof you may have. If you don't, this will never end. Or once again offer to trade her the ipad for the other stuff. And if she threatens you again, tell her you're taping the conversation and will turn the tape into the police for blackmail. She'll change her tune in a hurry.

I think it's legal to tape a conversation that you are participating in.
