I don't want my Facebook and Twitter accounts to have any idea that I have a Perb account. My Twitter name doesn't know my Perb name. Yeah, its like separation of church and state.

How about you?

Yeah, I'd like my Facebook account to be connected to my Perb account so everyone I know will be aware I'm a pooner....

You really asked that right

Just remember, when logging onto Facebook, use a different browser or an entirely different computer. I have a computer for personal stuff, and a different computer for business. My cell phone does not have Facebook on it, so it can't mine my contacts, emails etc.

Ummm... so, you are saying that Facebook mines contacts from other sites you log onto?
Sounds like something I should know and I apparently have overlooked.

Facebook is all about data mining.

Yes FB mines data wherever they can do it.

This came to a point of interest to me recently.

An SP who shall remain nameless is booked and all Commuications are via a separate pooner email. The domain is not the same as my personal or business emails. 100% separate. The FB security is locked so only my friends can see it.

Browsing through my FB over the holiday I noticed a familiar face in my Suggested Friends to join. How did FB know that we had connected? Not by cell phone ever and a non FB email address.

Darth Vader is at the controls of FB I tell ya.

Wow! That certainly re-enforces my decision to never even look at Facebook, let alone have an account there.

For the most part I avoid the entire bewildering alphabet-soup of social networking sites. My friends know my phone number and email address. Professional contacts are made by old-fashioned word-of-mouth. As for the rest of the world, the less it knows about me the happier I am.

Have not province
I avoid using social media sites as well.

However, I use Waterfox for PERB, Leolist/Backpage, and porn, and Chrome for everything else.

It's not only FB who does this, if you have an email account especially Gmail it's mining your info as well.

Everyone asks for a phone number or other email account "so that we can help you if your account is hacked"

If you give the information to them, they can now track your activity. Your Facebook account knows at least one email account and probably your phone number, your Hotmail account knows at least your phone number, your google account knows at least 1 other email account and your phone number.

There is big money in tracking people so that you can tailor ads to their online activity.

Look how many retailers have so-called loyalty programs.
Sign up for their email list and get a percentage off your purchases.
Obviously your personal information is worth a lot, or they would not be buying it from you with discounts.
Canadian Tire was caught selling cardholders information to American companies several years ago. That information is valuable.

I use MSoft IE InPrivate browsing. How much insulation does that offer? I do have a bunch of Micro's tel# on my phone. So far no hassell. PITA. Tradeoff between convenience and paranoia.
