This Is a real fucking smart move!!! Hire an player agent who's got absolute shit experience as a GM and is an agent of a current player on the team. This means were stuck with Naslund again here!!!
This is a class move. Be prepared people for many years of sadness ahead for the Canucks. This guy is just going to get all the tidbit garbage that has been flowing in the dressing room or wherever about other players or the coach!
And thats another thing now. Mark my words Alain Vigneault is the next guy to go. Watch!
They could of gotten someone way better than that!
This guy is a slimy lawyer/player agent...fuck...zip for GM experience. What a joke...I seriously hate these new owners! They look like pieces of shit and I won't be spending 1 dime on the Canucks.
I hope more people cancel their season tickets so they become easier to get....
Gilles is an ex NHL'er so it's not like he has no hockey sense at all... He seems to be pretty sucessful in everything he has done, this could work out good... He may have a lot of contacts out there he can rely on and build on...
I sure hope Mike Gillis can seperate himself from player agent to GM when dealing with Naslund.
Read a great article in Maclean's magazine from April 14th called why the leafs stink. Check it out. Also let's hope they don't go down that direction because there are some similar signs.
Ray Shero in Pittsburgh and Pierre Lacroix in Colorado had no GM experience when they got their jobs and they seem to have done pretty well so the lack of experience factor with Gillis may not be much of a factor. He knows hockey and knows the negotiating & salary cap game so I think he'll be just fine. It will take a few years though because that team could be gutted.
The Canucks making another bad hockey operations decision, WHAT A SHOCK!!!!
What perplexes me is why they didn't take more time to make a decision. If they hire Gillis fine but guys like Doug Armstrong, Jim Nill (the assistant in Detroit) Steve Tambellini (which would have made the most sense) and even Scotty Bowman was available. They had probably a month to decide and took a week. For all we know Gillis is the savior of this team but if it were me, I probably would have hired someone with some player personel experience.
agreed but adding a player that costs you nothing but some money is gold... especially with the market this summer... it's not like there's someone super prime to land
Brunnstrom was (is?) about a risk free signing as you can get.
