Has anyone been there? One opened recently in Winnipeg and I have been thinking of giving it a try.
Am I correct in saying you cook your own steak at the table?

Looking at their website that appears to be an option, you can have a lava rock brought to your table with the cut of beef and cook it to your liking, If i'm paying $35+ for a steak, thay can cook it lol, otherwise I'd just stay home and grill one myself on my bbq

When I heard their ad I thought to myself, "They've missed the entire concept for me going OUT to eat in a restaurant." If I wanted to cook my own meal I'd stay home. The reason I am going to a restaurant is to have someone else cook my food and serve me.
What's next? A restaurant where you have to do your own dishes?

And speaking of new restaurants I checked out Mr. Mikes a while back with my daughter. Horrible! Waaaaaaaay overpriced for the quality of the steak and food overall. Add to that the atmosphere is like eating in a dining hall. For the money I paid I could have gone to a much nicer place for a way better meal.

I've traveled to several countries with the "you cook" concept. I like the social aspect of it. You sit around with a group of people, have drinks, and cook up small servings at a time spread out over several hours. However, I have a feeling this isn't what they have in mind at Lot 88. Also, I have to agree on the pricing. If I'm doing the cooking I'm expecting the pricing to be significantly cheaper than the Keg.

Its also varies by culture. Some places you go in and you cook it yourself, like hotpot places or bbq places. Places like Mongolian BBQ or Boiling Point, you are supposed to cook your food. And same for some grilling places like Gyukaku. Its the social aspect of having fun and cooking your meat or veggies, with people. Its literally a thing, Japanese or Korean BBQ.

If a place that is not a hotpot or a grilling place like Insadong, and tries to make you cook your own, its just a bad gimmick.
