I'm going to be in Vancouver in a bit and I'm trying to figure out which hotel to stay at. I'm looking for one with no key access so the ladies can get to my room with out a hassle. And I'm a smoker. I've found several that advertise smoking rooms available via my net searching. But I can't tell which ones need a room key to get into the building/elevator. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thankx in advance.

Try the Blue Horizon on Robson and book the deluxe room, its only about $10 more and well worth it. I'm not sure about smoking but if worst comes to worst you get a balcony with a nice view as shown below

There is no smoking in any hotel room in Vancouver. It was outlawed a few years back. I have stayed at the Westin Grand, on Robson, on several occasions and it has a very discrete entrance at the rear that bypasses the lobby. It goes directly to the elevator. It also has balconies for smoking.
It does however use elevator passes, but I have tipped the boys downstairs to let the girl up the elevator (10 or 20 bucks, it wasn't much) and I have also met the girl downstairs as well. The bell boys keep their mouths shut and as stated, the entrance is very discrete.
It is also a fabulous hotel and a great location.

which hotels have uncontrolled access
Thanks for the help. But it seems that I should of only asked which hotels have uncontrolled access and then figured out which are smoking myself.
A little while ago I stayed in a smoking room at the ramada on kingsway, but the elevator to the wing with my room needed an room key. My research on the net has turned up several others that also allow smoking, but they give no indication about access. I understand that there are laws in vancouver that prohibit smoking in public places. I don't understand how some hotels get around it, and I really don't care. I just wanna be able to sit on the crapper in the morning and have a smoke and a poo.
I've seen online that I can book a smoking room at the following:
Cassandra Hotel 3075 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC, Canada V5R 5J8
Best Western Kings Inn & Conference Center
Best Western Vancouver Chateau Granville Hotel
Does anybody know about room access with these?

I think the Century Plaza has some floors which are smoking floors.
I don't know how they get around it. But when you go to book, you have the option to request smoking or non-smoking.
There is no card access required. Your guests will be able to use the elevators. You only need the card to access the pool.

For the Waterfront, they have a doorman at the door, but depending on the time of the day, you can access the hotel from the food court underground via the elevators. If the elevators are shut down, you can come up the stairs one level and access the hotel from there.
