From the news last night, prices in Vancouver are trending down 3 cents a litre or so for the next few days, as the demand shock from 1 million tourists in Oregon for the eclipse dies off. Most of the gas we get comes from the PacNorWest, not Houston, so we will have a delayed impact from the hurricane, but it will come. Vancouver is 22 cents higher than Montreal, the next most expensive major city in Canada. Part of that is taxes, most of it is because other than the lone small local refinery, we get nearly all our gas from the USA, not from Alberta. Part of it is almost certainly collusion or price fixing due to a lack of true competition in the market. Costco typically is 2-3 cents cheaper than other local outlets, but not every costco has a gas station and you have to be a member to get the best price I seem to recall. Gas Buddy app on your smart phone is your friend for finding the best prices nearby.
