This incident with the US Marine who was taped shooting an Iraqi gives me an ideal about running a simulation exercise. The poll feature on this board would work for this simulation if you give an honest answer. If you do not know about the situation do a search and read up on it before you read further.

The situation is you are that same US Marine, you are in his shoes. Correction, you are in his issued boots. Someone yells, “"He's fucking faking he's dead. He faking he's fucking dead,". The Iraqi could or could not be booby-trapped or armed. You don’t know for sure. If he is booby-trapped which has happened before, you and your squad are dead if you do not kill him. If he isn’t booby-trapped and you kill him you will have killed and innocent man. You have to decide to:

A – Shoot

B – Don’t Shoot

YOU MUST DECIDE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. MAKE YOUR DECISION NOW!!!!

If you made your decision within 5 seconds to shoot then choose “Shoot”. If you decide to not shoot within 5 seconds then choose “Don’t Shoot”. If you did not make your decision within 5 seconds then choose, “I Froze”.

Remember, don't shoot the wounded unless the screaming and crying is getting annoying.

PS You should check out "Generation Kill" by Evan Wright, about a Marine unit in the invasion of Iraq from a muddy boots perspective.

As was told to me many moons ago, it's always better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

The US army has Rules of Engagement. One of those rules is don't fire unless being fired upon. A soldier isn't in Iraq to think, he's there to do.

In Iraq, given the way the enemy engages the Marines, eg ambush, sucide bombing, etc. I would shoot first, ask questions later.

I don't believe in this economic engagement in Iraq, however, the soldiers should do whatever it takes to protect their own lives. if i was there (and thank god i'm not) i would practice scorched-earth from the foot of my bed to the nearest latrine and back again until they shipped me home to relative safety.

Being a somewhat morbid fan of war movies....and watching a few in the last few days...and playing war games on the internet, and knowing whats going on in Iraq....I'd shoot.....

So under the rules that Iraqi in the room gets to shoot first befor you can do anything?

No wonder the US is suffering so many casualties.

Does'nt this mean hoping the other guy misses with his first shot? and if he does hit with his first shot, Too Damn Bad So Damn Sad for you, but at least you won't be in shit for shooting.

Two shots.

I'm good at making snap decisions.

First, I shoot the fzzker.

Then, I shoot the cameraman and destroy the camera, making this poll unnecessary.

:)

Iraq is a war, pure and simple. If that soldier hadn't shot, and the Iraqi turned over and killed the Marine on camera, would there be any outpouring of anger at the Iraqi?

This thread is not about synpathy, culpability, legal arguments or any other crap. It's about a simple decision between LIFE and DEATH in a theater of combat in that mosque.
