Johnny Carson dead at 79

Just saw on the news that Johnny Carson died today at age 79 from emphysema.

He will be missed

One of my faves has got to be when he had Raquel Welch on the show. She had her cat on her lap and asked Johnny, "Would you like to pet my pussy?" and he says "Sure if you move that damn cat"

Thank you, Johnny

He'll be missed. He set the standard against whom all other talk show hosts are measured. But on the other hand, he didn't invent the wheel, so let's not get carried away here. He drew heavily on those who came before him. He got many of his reaction takes from Groucho Marx & Jack Benny.

I remember during the successor flap between Leno & Letterman, he stayed out of the fray. But to his credit, his producers helped Letterman craft a deal with CBS that enabled him to leave NBC which had treated Dave shoddily, to launch a new show on CBS. Even lately, he would occasionally send Dave a joke that was used.

The best yuk that I got was when he was reading those fake news headlines one night, and he reported that Exxon was suing the State of Alaska for getting duck feathers in their crude oil!
