So I gotta ask those who watched this video. Should the girl have dumped Naoki?
If you think that he is either freeloading off of her or they don't love each other, then yes. There's no doubt that his inability to provide is a drain on her, but that is typical of many relationships. The fact is, she helped someone who was down on his luck and they depend on each other.

Based on the appearance of her home, which Naoki moved into with her, she was struggling to get by even before he arrived. So a larger question is whether society (in Japan and elsewhere) should do more to help the working poor. Should somebody have to work 15 hrs/day just to get by?

Plenty of these in the old world. You can call it proverty, but it's competition due to over-population. Ah life is so easy for us pioneers out here.

It's more complicated than your larger question. Post WW2, Japan believed the good times would never end (life time employment). Their Keiritsu business model and corrupt business practices worked for a very along time until the massive asset bubble broke. With a large demographic population retiring and small young generational base to feed the gov't coffers, brings serious implications for the future of Japan. No welfare and Services for the poor.

The issue is "responsible government planning". Japan being a immature society relatively from a capitalistic standpoint never saw it coming or maybe they did but just didn't care for the miniority elite who are super rich.

Yes we (majority) are very spoiled here and have an attitude of entitlement. We have no idea how good we have it here.

The guy is a fool that blew it all in the good times. He needs to move out of the city. For anyone who knows anything about macro economics, Japan is proof that Keynesianism clearly does not work.

The girl is kind of an odd ball. Most Asian girls I know would have ditched his ass a long time ago.

Ditto Thank's for sharing this

I just finished watching this remarkable doc. I confer with others that we all are close to becoming like Naoki. Maybe he repesents the "New Reality" for most working people throughout the world.

Really like any of us here know what real poor people are like?
Come on, we spend 1-4k (or more) a month after tax cash on sex.
If you can afford to blow 300 in a hour on sex a few times a month you should be comfortable enough in life that you aren't worried about being poor, ever.
