Every culture, every society has tried over time, to try and find an explanation of 'why' we're here. Various stories and analogies get created to tell the story of how and why we got here. Ancient societies that have experienced everything life can throw your way over thousands of years have created lessons for survival, understanding, acceptance of what is beyond your control.
Some people have an unfortunate tendency, when they meet others who have a different story of how and why we're here, to dismiss 'others' as mythology, and theirs as the only reality.
Everyone has a story to tell, the reality is different for everyone, there are lessons in all.

Read your poll question again. Is is a religion or a cult, and you gave yes and no as the answers. That makes no sense. The poll choices should either be religion & cult or the question should be is Scientology a cult? Yes/No.

For the record, it is almost certainly a cult. You have to pay to play and they are incredibly militant about their practices.
What he said lol

I believe I'll have another drink.
Amen to that ... organized religion has caused more problems than I care to name, believe in yourself and do good unto yourself and others, after all you need to be whole to help others and that's all "god" "the creator" "allah" etc. cares about.

Most important rule in Hollywood is to NEVER piss off the Scientologists. These are the most powerful people in Hollywood and they have a reputation of not tolerating anyone who does.

With regard to blood transfusions, my understanding is that it stems from the Biblical suggestion to not "eat blood", not avoid transfusions, which of course is a fairly recent endeavor.

As to paying 10%, I think it's a good idea to donate 10% of your income to charity, been doing it my whole life and feel fortunate to be able to do so.

Sexy Melina; Great to see your pics and comments here again!

I also saw a quote elsewhere that "a cult is a religion without political power." According to that definition, Scientology is a religion in many countries where it has the financial power to retain tax-free status (like here and the US), and a cult in many others where it is not recognized.

JW's are the same if you decide to leave the religion or you don't follow the rules of the religion the other members are not supposed to talk to you anymore. I have friends that come from a family of Jehovah Witnesses and she wasn't allowed to talk to a child hood friend anymore cause she left the religion. She has to sneak around behind her parents back at 26 because her mom and dad would not be okay with it.

Other religions, on the other hand, just kill you if you leave.

Some of the born again christian churches i've attended. The pastor basically demanded us to give 10% of our net earnings for the year. Really depends on which place you go to. Some of these places they have people dancing like they are crazy, speaking in tongues, and acting all nutty.
You mean Catholics? That is called a tithe. It is a tradition in christianity for people to give a tenth of their income to the church for charity.

I have a friend who's parents wouldn't let him get a blood transfusion because of this religion. They explained it to me too, they say that people can have just as many problems due to complications from blood transfusions and that natural remedies can make the blood multiply rather then having to take someone else's blood.

The reason why they practice this is because a versus in the bible says its wrong to accept blood or transfuse two people. I can't remember the first exactly but they are practicing exactly what the bible says

Its sad :(

They didn't have blood transfusions when the bible was written, so it says nothing about it. Tell him that :)

According to every last single member of the Church of Scientology, they are a religion. They are not a cult.

People in cults do not know they are in a cult. They claim it as a faith or religion

but you know ..... we all have to believe in something right !!!!!!!
I believe in myself...

I don't need to gather with other people just to worship someone mystical & magical because I don't have the answers. I don't need others telling me what I should think, what I should eat, and what I should do on various days of the week. To be honest, I think being spiritual is fine, it's organised religion that I have a problem with. Religion's been a bigger killer of people than cancer probably has, in my opinion. Think of all the atrocities that have happened throughout history in religion's name.

Sorry, it's not for me...

And Scientology's a cult. Plain & simple.
And Tom Cruise is crazier than a shithouse rat. And he's gayer than 10 Liberaces....
