iPad Wi-fi vs iPad 4G

So the new iPad is coming out and I am thinking of finally joining the masses and jumping onto the iPad bandwagon.

At first I was planning on getting the 32GB wi-fi but a friend told me that I should consider getting the 4G version without service since the 4G version was GPS assisted versus just having the 'digital compass' on the wi-fi version. He basically said that anything that depended on location services like Google Map would be much better served with the 4G version.

What do you guys think? Is it worth the extra $130? Basically with a case and all the 32GB 4G version including tax will come out to somewhere around $900.

Well, if you think about it, why would you be using GPS services if you had a WiFi version? Ie...it's not like you'll be in a car using the WiFi iPad as a GPS.

4G is not $130 more when you take into account the service contract you'll need to get with it. Personally, I got the WiFi iPad 2 and maybe encountered a situation once or twice where I wish I had 3G connectivity.

I have an iPad 2 with 3G connectivity but have never hooked it up. 95% of the time i can find wi-fi somewhere.

Also, depending on your cell phone and the plan you have, you can use your cell phone as a mobile hotspot and connect the iPad to that. I have done that when traveling and needed internet access with my iPad. It works great and then I'm only paying for one plan.

I use a lap top with tethering for some of my presentations.

Even at 2 MB / Sec (typical data rate within the GVRD) it is still sort of like watching paint dry when you want the info to pop up.

This version of iPad will have LTE which in greater Vancouver and all the urban areas I visit is supported.

LTE speed rates are 75 - 100 MB /sec.

screaming fast and it will not allow for those 'moments' of anticipation of the answer.

If it doesn't work, I still have a nice tool for surfin Perb bwahaha.

Yes Venesssa it's definitely paying off. Wish i had the new iPad 3 to really see you in all your retina display worthy gloryness. Or better yet, seeing you in person which i imagine would trump even apple's finest displays.

That's fast.
I really cannot justify to get the new iPad, but when the next one comes out, I may get the 4G option.
My iPad 2 is 3G/wifi, but never hooked up with 3G.
I have two iPhone with 6G of data plan, so it does enough for me.
