Dear Mac fans!

iOS 5 has finally released!

Have you updated yet?
I was so excited about it that I almost called day-off yesterday... but didn't.

OK, calm down Yoko, I may be one of those mac geeks who is devoted to mac way too much.

Spend hours yesterday afternoon on this.
Tried, failed, need more space in mac HD to do backups... bought another external HD, copy, delete, empty trash, tried again, failed, read mac forum, tried.....

Took me while, but yes I did it.

How about you guys?
Any comment?
Any tips?
You likey?
Or, it is another failure after mobileMe?

*Please keep your topic on this matter....
Criticism is welcome as long as it is constructive. *

Haha, wow sounds like you had quite the experience updating to iOS5!

I own a lowly 3G so no iOS5 for me yet, but I can't wait to pick up my 4s this weekend!! Time for an upgrade!

I setup iCloud on my mac yesterday so I'm all set for the new iPhone, I can't wait to be able to sync wirelessly and being able to have my contacts and calendar update automatically will be awesome too!

While I'm at it, I have to admit that seeing how much of a geek you are makes you that much more attractive to me! haha, why do you have to be on the island! :(

I'm most excited about iMessage, I must say.
I know texting is a big way for pooners-escort communication, and never had the privilege as I use a toll free number.
Now I can text! Mind you, I have to be careful on this, I've read on news that texting with sexual contents can get you arrested! Huh!

It shows up when you update to iOS5.
It is something like BBM, I suppose.
You can exchange text message via Apple ID.

You should make sure you have a plenty of free space in your computer before start.
For my iPhone, I needed 11GB. It's a huge backup work.
It also takes long time. Actual updating for my iPhone was about 40 minutes, but I spent whole afternoon to figure out.

iCloud is your default data storage in apple cyberspace.
You have about 5GB to start, and you can purchase more.
If it sync well, theoretically, photos you take using your iPhone will be stored in your local HD without connecting with USB.

I can't text to pooners, but from now on, I can communicate using text to thse who owns apple toys?

Hi Yoko,

Since you have and iPad or iPhone you might be interested in this offer that i found.

Have you updated to iOS5 yet? If so, this offer from Box.net might be of interest: for the next 50 days, they are giving away 50 GB of free storage to anyone who uses a personal Box.net account on their app for iOS5. Once you get the storage, it's yours forever. Box.net stores your files in the cloud, so you don't have to worry about transfering files from device to device. With the app, you can also access your files from your mobile phone and use AirPlay for wireless streaming

when you launch itunes it will tell you there is an update. Download it, backup your iphone (shift click on to get the contextual menu that includes backup) and then update the phone. You may need to restore from backup afterwards. You may also need to reinstall many of the apps you have already purchased. Luckily under the App Store - > updates there are a few new options including the one that lists everythign you have ever purchased and the list of what is not currently installed on your phone.

After you upgrade you can decide whether or not you want to sync / backup wirelessly or tethered to a computer.

Backing up iPhone and iPad is pain in ass job.
During the updating process, it will make a back up and restore everything as the way it was automatically.
But I just needed to make 11Gb for my iPhone, 25gb for my iPad to make the backup.
I had to figure out where in the local folder iTunes stored the backup, copy the existing one in the external hd, delete the one from your Mac, so I could have more storage. I also had to repair the start up disk when I did not know why my updating did not go well. So that means, I had to look for install DVD... Which was hard. Hahahha.

After all, it was a big job, but it could have been a lot simpler.
