In Calgary this is what the ladies do, when an inquiry is made, you ask if they have a board handle with reviews, you go check the reviews and see how the lady has responded, if she doesn't respond, she is either been too busy, not got to it or doesn't know the review has taken place. If her comments are positive, then you know that person is safe to see and if she has not responded, then you either contact her for intel or ask the admins of the ladies lounge for intel. The lady will respond with green if he's good to go or she'll give you brief intel of why he's not good to see. And that's what makes the community safer. 90% of the ladies are really awesome about this, but as usual you'll run into some that are not.

BTW even most of the agencies out here are good about giving references to ladies as well, I'd say about 5 or 6 of them definitely are awesome about it.

He was released the same day... you eff'in kidding me?

I've known people to stay in there longer, waiting for trial, for ALOT less. This guy beats an escort beyond recognition.....and still comes home before supper? Do cops not give a shit about service providers? You'd figure Cops & the system be more stiffer with what the pickton thing.
I honestly don't know how you girls do it. You have bigger balls than us. Too many nutso's like this 24 year old kid.

What the fuck more assaults this woman almost died in April 2013

http://www.torontosun.com/2013/08/2...ons-links-to-suspicious-vancouver-area-deaths
A Lower Mainland escort who was allegedly beaten by a client — nearly to death, she claims — a few months before two escorts were found dead in New Westminster this month wonders whether the latest cases are related to hers.
James Eric Vaughan, 24, was arrested, according to police. He was charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Court records show he was released on bail the same day.

Ridge Meadows RCMP said the information in the Powers case was made available to other police agencies and agencies that work with sex-trade workers almost immediately after the alleged assault.

A spokesman said no public warning was issued in the Powers case because a suspect was arrested almost immediately.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound, speaking for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said police would be liaising with other law enforcement agencies to compile their information for the investigation in the two deaths.

He was released the same day... you eff'in kidding me?

That should be "allegedly beats". We don't know the details of the case so we probably shouldn't try to inflame things.

Also, as far as I know, when people are released on bail, the police aren't the ones responsible. I believe judges do that. So let's not jump on the police for that. If we're going to jump to conclusions, maybe we should praise them for finding a suspect so quickly?

New Westminster women's deaths reveal risks to indoor sex workers
by Yolande Cole on Aug 28, 2013 at 10:23 am

The recent deaths of two escorts in New Westminster reinforce calls for legal reforms to protect the safety of sex workers, according to Vancouver lawyer Katrina Pacey.

“The tragedy that…we hear most commonly is of course violence against street-based sex workers, and what this situation tells us is that there are vulnerabilities when women are working indoors alone,” Pacey, Pivot Legal Society’s litigation director, told the Georgia Straight by phone.

“If that’s what’s happening here…what we need to do is really look at those situations and say, ‘Okay, how can we support sex workers to be in the safest possible circumstance so this doesn’t happen again?’ ”

we have had some luck changing attitudes of police but little to no response from prosecutors and judges. so yes rath...i believe we should be blaming the judges in these situations.

This is a typical age group of men that do this kind of thing . A 26 year old killed an escort a few years ago her body was found in the bushes out side her in call . The guy basically got off but he is in jail I think he just asked for early release and was denied I might be wrong on the specifics . Body found in kits

Everybody use call out system please do not hesitate to ask the answer is yes . Clients be ready to provide a reference and have the ladies number or email handy . It is much appreciated and would ask that you do it anyway even if she doesn't ask . Clients ask me if I'm checking references they care and Im very grateful .
Yeah that was Nicole, I worked and lived with her but not at that location. He did .. I think 4.5 years in total for killing her. 1 in remand, which they counted as 2 years and I think he's out now. His last name is Evans, can't remember his first name right now. He dragged her down 10 flights of stairs and left her in the bushes.

Not a day goes by I don't think about her and same with Susie since we were all really close.

How the hell does some greaseball like this make bail? It saddens and sickens me ! They should have professionals access the defendants, and evaluate before letting these guys back on the streets. OMG, the criminal justice system, makes me sick !

I hope the police catch this grease ball or greaseballs. I live in Alberta, a province away and I am terrified to see so many guys now. The more I read up, the more sick it makes me :( There seems to be a PATTERN HERE TOO, all these women are in their forties.

So they still don't know if it was murder, or accidental/suicide. The lady who told them of a brutal rape of one of the ladies, I heard that also somewhere on one of these threads/forums, not sure can't remember. We'll just have to wait for toxicology results...how long will that take?
It seems very convenient to simply report that the autopsy was inconclusive. No blunt force trauma? No bruising? No signs of a physical altercation? C'mon...people don't just die one day, especially women in their early 40's, in reasonably good health. There is more to this story.

I am quite appalled that their escort photos were used on the news. Pretty sure they could have found some nice photos in their residence to show on the news. One of them has two grown up sons for heavens sake. My square friends are in panic mode now everytime I miss their calls or do not return text messages.

I really hope and pray the family of the deceased and all their loved ones are granted the strength to get through this.

i spoke to media about it and the RCMP. i talked about what VK said and what language is appropriate in a press release. its a reflection of how outsiders view us. they see us as seperate and less valuable, not "real" women.

its hate. like racism or homophobia. its a huge part of the changes required to bring our community safety and stability.

we even do it to each other with dancers feeling above escorts, escorts feeling above "crack whores"....that's why i hate that term and always ask people not to use it.....

we continue to try to change the hearts and minds but its a long way to go....

yes, the work to change the language has had more of an impact here than out east....

here's an article with really offensive language released last night. i was wondering how long it would be before the abolitionists would try to own this.....

Date: Thursday, August 29, 2013
August 29, 2013 (Vancouver, BC) Our hearts go out to the families and friends of Jill Lyons and Karen Nabors.

The recent, sudden deaths of these two women within the same building have prompted a public discussion about the safety of women in indoor prostitution and has further exposed the entrenched sexism that informs the way that the police response to investigating violent crimes against women, especially women in prostitution.

We know from 40 years of working with women who have experienced all forms of male violence that the “foul play” suspected when a woman is found dead in her home is likely to have been perpetrated by a violent man. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has described Jill Lyons and Karen Nabors as engaged in a “high risk lifestyle.” The grim risk that these women faced was the same risk that all women in prostitution face: the violence perpetrated by pimps and johns. Women’s exposure to this risk is not a lifestyle choice—it is a result of women’s inequality and men’s violence. The public warning to women in prostitution to “take precautions” further shifts the blame off of the men who attack women in prostitution. This warning is dangerously misguided. It places the onus on women identify and fend off potential attackers.

Daisy Kler, a collective member with Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter explains:

“Male violence against prostituted women is a result of women’s inequality and men’s sense of entitlement to women’s bodies. Our crisis work has taught us that this violence does not stop or lessen when the location changes. These two cases are frighteningly reminiscent of the murders of prostituted Vancouver women Lisa Arlene Francis, Hong Wei Yin, and Nicole Parisien, all of whom were killed as a result of being prostituted indoors. The only thing that will work to make women safe is the end of prostitution and the end of male violence against women.”

they don't care that we are educated and articulate and don't need feminazi's making choice for our bodies. they have one goal, abolition of prostitution , and they don't care how many women die in their quest for that goal.

I felt the same way when I saw it ... same as they refer to them as escorts not woman ... you don't hear them say the flouriest was found .
My heart hurts for the family

VK
Exactly. This is the worst possible way to be outted. Not just to your family and friends but to your neighbors, your plumber and oh the whole of Canada! As if the grief of losing these two women were not enough for the community, their families and friends- they are constantly being reminded that they had a high risk lifestyle.... now it would be easy to just blame it on lifestyle choices wouldn't it. The first death was considered an overdose/suicide- maybe it was we don't know but thinking that right away is stereotyping and again showing the general public that what they think about us is true. Yes some of us are unfortunate and are addicted, are on the streets but we will never understand each others circumstances unless we have lived through them ourselves.
Their identity is that they are women with families. I don't consider my identity to be what I do but who I am.
