Actually he's quoted in saying that he has them well hidden but can't wear them out of fear of being killed. It's true man, it's NYC. You will be killed for your shoes, sad fact of life. Doesn't matter if its Air Max or boots. I can't blame him. I spent a lot of time in the Bronx, and Long Island about 10 years back, and I think it may jade me a bit on this story.
I wondered about that when this story broke.

How dumb is that cop giving a homeless guy $100 shoes? He may as well have hung the bills from his clothes. You never give these people new stuff if they continue to live on the streets or go to shelters because it will be stolen and sold for drugs in the blink of an eye.

How did this cop not know that?

New York's Finest

Small gestures can go a really long ways. For many of us who don't come across homeless people very often it is thoughtful to find other ways to help if we can.

I'm glad this went viral because I bet this cops display of compassion motivated many others to act similarly.

The wonderful deed of this police HERO should not be diminished just because the homeless man decided not to wear the new boots given to him. Truly New York's Finest. They sacrificed their lives to save people trapped in the Twin Towers during 9/11, they were there for the victims of Superstorm Sandy, and they care for NY's homeless. This picture proves that if you do something good it will come back to you. :thumb:

Not really.

There was a cop in Toronto last year I think,
Didn't he like buy a young boy something in a store, when the kid didn't have enough money.
Then what happens to him. He died didn't he, in the line of duty.

Life has no hidden meaning to it, or at all fair. It just happens.

The guy wasn't actually homeless either, he was just crazy.

Even if this homeless man had a secret mansion in the Hamptons, the police officer did what was the right thing to do. Such a great heart warming story for the holidays. I hope this police HERO gets his wish of being transferred to the Emergency Services Unit of the NYPD in the near future. He'll be a great addition to the SWAT Team because of his rare qualities. :thumb:
