So I tried to help a member here who was being blackmailed, as I suspected the same people tried to do the same with me about a month ago.
The Mods here thought my posts had become to Vigilante in context.....so I had to stand with my nose in the corner for a week.
The ironic thing was.....I was going to put that member in contact with law enforcement that handled my case, as a favour, and stop him from meeting the perpetrators.
I took the ban in stride, and I understand I can be misinterpreted sometimes, as I'm a product of my past, and also of my current environment.
I did feel it was a bit of an over reaction, but I do understand it may be necessary at times to curb some unpredictable behaviour........for the record.....I'm always in control, always respectful to other people's situations.....and I know I walk a fine line at times.
I have fought for my country, suffered at the hands of my enemy ,when captured....escaped, and survived.
I have had numerous Professionals council me for PTSD.....I am currently Battalion Commander for Forestry, with a team of thirty under my command.....and there is an extensive mental competence examination to pass ,with that accommodation.
I accept the ban under precautionary grounds, as you don't know me......if the Mods here have any questions , I'm always available, as you know by my more than polite , understanding, very courteous, and very naïve email to you, just moments before you banned me.
Trying to help another member here, to not get blackmailed, extorted, or endangering his own well being......will never happen again.
Your reaction to my help has been noted......

I don't know you nor have I ever met you, but I get a small sense of who you are by your writings. Even though we are all behind a keyboard, some of who we are comes out unless you are a complete phony. I don't believe that is the case with you. Anyway, what I am trying to say is don't let the actions of one person dictate how you live your life! Do what you do without worrying about what someone else behind a keyboard has to say. As long as you don't offend anyone beyond reason, that is.

Welcome back Sybian, you were missed. As you said in a previous post I think we usually see eye to eye :) (as long as I am standing on a ladder)

I also have never met you but through the years have got to know you I think. You may say "Trying to help another member here, to not get blackmailed, extorted, or endangering his own well being......will never happen again." but I think I know you good enough to know that just isn't you. You served and still serve your county, protect our countries habitat from enemies and ourselves, help your fellow man out from harm whenever possible, you are just one of those type of people. The givers, the protectors, the go to guys that will always stand up for those that need a helping hand. Its in your blood and I don't see it changing and wouldn't want it to...ever.

Say what you want, I know you will still be the Sibian that I know and admire...as I hear in a move once, you are "that guy".

if you have never been banned
you most likely have never had an opinion and stood up for what you believe is right.

I assume you have already figured out that you could have given the same advice thru a direct pm to the person being blackmailed and thereby escaped the wrath of the Perb mods.

+1 agreed
Glad your back to the community. The lounge isn’t the same without you

Sadly, this thread alone could earn another ban. Perhaps even lounge access denied permanently. The mods tend to dislike when people post about being banned and the reason for it (mentioning the very thing they didn't like to begin with) IMHO perb has lost more than a few valued contributors for that reason.

Discussing Vigilanteism or conspiracy to commit an indictable offence will attract attention from law enforcement.

It could also leave the board owners liable or subject to close scrutiny if something should happen to the blackmailer.

Any moderator has to err on the side of caution to protect the very existence of the board.
We need to be careful writing posts that may easily be misinterpreted.

Welcome back.

We all, myself included, have posted things which prompted the involvement of a moderator.
We learn from these situations and move on.
Moderators have a difficult and thank less job. Kind of like being a referee. No one says thanks or good game but they are all over you when you make a call against them (BTW, I am NOT speaking about the OP or this case in particular but about moderating any forum /board in general).
As WW says they do at times need to make decisions on the side of caution to protect the board.

Any way welcome back. Besides, you probably welcomed a break from all of us degenerates. :)

Cheers
J

Welcome back Sybian. I was surprised at how much I missed seeing your posts, as I sipped my morning coffees.

I agree the Mods have a very thankless , and difficult job.....and I couldn't do it.
I also understand that their function is to protect the integrity, and function of the board.....I also understand why they banned me, although I feel it was an over reaction....but I may have done the same in their case, not truly knowing who they are dealing with.
I'm sure they read back somewhat into my history, and there was a cause for concern......my cowboy pride, my history, and my intentions came into question......at least that's how I interpreted it.
If you ask me a question......It is my my nature, to look you right in the eye, and give you an honest answer....it is very simply who I am.
In the real world, I'm the guy who will change your tire for you, or pull you out of the ditch in the dark of night.
I guess I'm trying to clarify......my intentions were never to take the law into my own hands.
My intentions were to help, and put someone in contact with the right individuals familiar with my case.
Having said that......I guess I can see the Mods point as well....I'd just like them to consider mine.

I never read any of the posts, to me it would of made sense for 1 post to be public, saying you have dealt with this in the past and if anyone needs tips to send a pm?

Been there, done that. Got banned for defending the integrity of an SP from a poster who continually tried to insinuate that more services were available than actually were. Wish the mods had contacted me for an explanation but apparently that's not how things are done. I had contacted the poster via pm but ignored so I felt it was my duty to go public.

When you are a contributor for a while, things do happen. We sometimes don't even realize that we are breaking a rule. It happened to me and I had to sit in a corner for a week as well.

At the end you move on so Welcome Back cowboy.

Thanks my friend.......that day I was dealing with a bad injury, and not in full fighting form.....back in the saddle and moving on.
