That's kind of silly. People would still be going on vacation, going out for dinner and all those other things even if they were not dating or getting married. But they'd be paying rent, utilities and all other expenses on their own instead of splitting those costs with a spouse. It's often almost just as expensive to travel alone than as a couple...a hotel room isn't any more expensive if there are two people as if there.is only one...but 2 people pay half of what the person travelling solo does. I can see things specific to engagement/wedding like rings etc being valid and being quite costly but the rest of it really isn't just limited to when people are dating and somehow money one saves if single.. Plus, couples get ridiculous amounts of gifts/money for engagements and weddings. Singles don't have a registry anywhere and no day when people line up to give them envelopes full of cash - they buy their own appliances and dinnerware!lol :p

Funny enough I heard on the radio today that the preferred Valentines
Day gift to be recieved by a gal is jewlery...I guess a dozen roses at
an inflated cost because of the day and maybe chocolates as well as a
nice dinner is not good enough. The average Calgary woman expects
her man to buy her jewlery which is the single most cost jacked
item in western society...markup is 1000% with regards to a jewellers
actual cost.

I would rather see an SP on Valentines Day or go to my fave micro for 2 days
and spend maybe $400 and GET some rather than fork over $1500 on and
over priced bit of jewlery LOL

Prefer and expect are very different. Of course I like jewelry more than flowers. Kind of a no-brainer. That IN NO WAY means I expect a guy to buy it for me.
I would prefer it to be sunny every day (don't we all?). But I live on the west coast. It's not realistic. I don't expect it.

These kind of articles are stupid. You go on dates for the enjoyment of it, it is a form of entertainment. If you didn't spend the money on that you would spend it on on some other form of equally costly entertainment.

Unless the authors think that people would otherwise be sitting in their apartment staring at a wall all day
