The core players of the Canucks have had loads of quality playoff experience in the last few years. They've been in every conceivable playoff situation by now and should adapt to whatever any challenger throws at them. However, goaltending almost always becomes the great equalizer in the playoffs. I agree with the chap who earlier said that Luongo blows it early in the first round and they give Schneider the green light the rest of the way. Schneider survived the trade deadline as insurance against Luongo's annual spring meltdown. The Canucks ran into airtight goaltending against Boston last year and Tim Thomas got in their heads. The Canucks' confidence is fuelled by their ability to put goals on the board and I'm afraid a Brian Elliot or Pekka Rinne will take that away from them. Schneider will keep them in it for a while, but those miscues of his outside his crease will be their downfall with games typically so tight in the playoffs.

For everyone pinning their hopes on Schneider - he has never played long, consecutive stretches in the NHL, let alone against the same team under that kind of pressure. He MIGHT be able to pull it off, but it is a big, big long-shot if Luongo slips into his annual spring narcolepsy.

Goalies can't bail them out every night. Scoring 1 goal a game and no PP won't cut it against better teams.

Agree with both statements. Suddenly changing to a defensive posture with a team meant for high-powered offense didn't work out too well for Washington when they did it last year. As for Schneider, he has zero playoff experience and with the exception of a select few, first time goalies struggle in their first playoff series. Schneider also has some positional weaknesses the some skill players can exploit. Canuck fans hate Luongo because he can't play like Patrick Roy. Guess what? Only one guy could and he's retired :p

Yes, and he's only played 26 games and no long stretches, so it's hard to extrapolate that over a season. Then there is always added injury potential not being used to constant game action.

Has Ferraro been reading my posts?

#41 in this thread -

"Goalies can't bail them out every night. Scoring 1 goal a game and no PP won't cut it against better teams. "

They got 5 tonight, but even getting 5 they didn't look dominant.

He said it and you said it because it's true and anyone looking at it rationally will agree. Sometimes you have to win ugly though, so I will give them credit, it has been ugly.

The main thing you and I disagree on is Schneider....he is their #1 goalie from a talent and skilled point of view...not salary.
Schneider's positioning is impeccable. He rarely falls forward onto his belly.

That stop on the short-handed goal attempt was nothing short of amazing. It turned the game into Vancouver's favour.

I don't understand all the whining about the goaltender's winning/stealing games lately. Seems to me that if they don't win/steal games, then the whine is that the goaltenders aren't stealing any games.

CockT's statements contain no objectivity cause he has a personal vendetta against the Canucks. He has stated this several times in various threads. I have yet to see anything positive from CockT about anyone/anything actually.

I don't disagree on Schneider. He would be the starter on any other team based on his and Luongo's current stats.

Waiting to see if he's able to do it long term and in the playoffs is part of the idiocy of the Canucks insisting Luongo is #1, which is based entirely on his salary and ego.

So is their PP terrible because they are now defensive minded and suddenly forgot how to score? I guessed you missed the playoffs last year when first year first year goalie was spectacular (Crawford)? Lou isn't a first year goalie and he struggled beyond belief. One more thing since I'm on a roll......How exactly does a goalie get experience in the playoffs, if he doesn't get to play?

Just to add this as I was looking at the NHL stats:

Cory Scheider is #5 in the league in GAA and #2 in the leaugue in Save Percentage....not too shabby
Crawford is in the minority, believe me (he also lost the series). Remember Steve Mason and how good he was in his rookie year during the regular season and how terrible he was in the playoffs? Also, every Canuck fan seems to forget the 3rd round last year against the Sharks when Luongo were Luongo made some big time saves to give the Canucks a chance in that series, especially in game 4. He also had 2 shutouts in the finals. For a Canuck fan, it looks like you are omitting some pretty legitimate arguments to play Luongo.

Luongo's play has been uneven at times but he is a more known quantity than Schneider is when it comes to playing in the post season. to repeat to all you Canuck fans YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET PATRICK ROY, SO DON'T EXPECT IT. HE WAS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME PLAYER. BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, IT IS BETTER THAN MOST TEAMS. YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO A STANLEY CUP. YOUR TEAM HAS TO EARN IT.

The thing with sports trolls in general, is the narrowly follow just the team they troll, or at least this is what is reflected in their posts.
Yes this leads to them appearing to have no objectivity.

The Canucks have won 6 in a row and have retaken the outright lead in the west. With a much much much easier final 3 games than the Blues.
Yet we here bitching.

Yet, no comment how the Blues....fighting off the Canucks for first, lose 5-2 at home to the worst team in the league????
Imagine the reverse of that!
Or these invincible Penguins with Crosby back, losing twice last week to the powerhouse Islanders giving up 10 goals?

I completely agree. They are tied for #1 in points with the Rangers, have won six straight two of them being shut outs and there's scoring from 3rd and 4th lines. YET there's all this bullshit talk about them not looking good and a 5-2 win not being an authoritative win even though it was against a team that was playing for their division and a play off spot. All this without their top goal scorer and arguably their number 2 defenceman. This is while St Louis got corn holed by 5-2 by a nobody team !

Some of you guys are clueless trolls!

Whatever round they meet Nashville in they get knocked out. Nashville has everything this year, great goaltending, stellar defense and three lines that can score and hit plus an incredible coach who has kept this team afloat for years with next to nothing to work with. Now Trotzy can really show what he can do. Nashville/Pittsburgh Stanley Cup final.
I think this prediction is dead on...either that or Det and Pens in the final. Canucks will lose in the second round in 6 or 7.

Nucks will see the 3rd round. Still my prediction. :thumb:
yes,if the fairways come equipped with tv's.
sorry,couldn't resist.

I heard someone say "Canucks are a scary team to bet for...and to bet against"

I'd be surprised, but not amazed, to see them lose in 1st round.
After that, who knows, the West is tough.
They could go deep, but I'm sceptical.
If Nashville play Detroit in the 1st round,a very good team exits early.
Same in the East if it's Pitts_Philly

Noteworthy to mention that the Canucks are 5/1 to win the Cup by most odd makers....money talks and bullshit walks. I'm putting my money on a Pens Nucks final and the Nucks to win it in 7!
