Just moved into a new house and want to install a home alarm. Does anyone have any knowledge of a good system?
AlarmForce will install a system which is basically a motion detector system plus contacts on the main door. no hardware cost just the monitoring contract.
Other quotes are $700 to install contacts on all the windows and doors plus the hardware and then a monitoring contract?
Any advice appreciated

You should get all your entry points alarmed, not just the front door and a motion detector.

I used to live in a 4th floor apartment, and finally got around to installing an alarm about 6 years after moving in. I also put wireless contacts on my balcony doors, because the standard motion detector didn't cover the bedroom, yet there was a sliding door from the bedroom to the balcony. It would have been a free install for the front door and motion detector (pre-wired apartment) and I had to pay extra for the wireless contacts but as it turned out it was well worth it.

About a month after installing the alarm, some asshole climbed up the wall and broke into people's apartments by prying the balcony doors off the runner!

My alarm went off, 5:30 in the evening, I wasn't home from work yet. When I got home the cops were waiting, we checked my place, the thief had run off without ripping me off. Unfortunately he had hit some other places first though.

The alarm company was called counterforce. $20.00 a month.

My pal lives on the fifth floor af an apartment, he too had his apartment broken into, they climbed to the fifth floor via the balconies to get into his apartment. Stole the good stuff- he had no alarm

I would like to let everyone know that Alarm Force is a great security provider. Both of my parents are far into their retirement and their age seems to be holding them back. They have difficulty walking up and down the stairs and have little to no means of protecting themselves. Unfortunately, their next door neighbor’s home has recently been broken into so I decided to purchase them a security system. The representative gave me a perfect package deal where the system was thoroughly explained to my parents and they could call a representative at any time for more assistance. Above all, it is great knowing that I don’t have to worry about their safety since they are finally protected and secure in their home.

never pay for any equipment and make sure when the contract is up you own the equipment. Also have as many separate zones as possible. That way if there is a window you like to leave open you can have all the others still set.

Motion detectors are useless if you have housepets. Entry points are the most important thing. Every window, and you can even get second sensors/magnets installed for those windows you like to leave cracked open (just ensure you have a bar or other device preventing them from being opened further. Also, put stickers in the window about the alarm, the young and the stupid will often see them and leave you alone, looking for easier targets.

Most companies will do the installation for free or near free as part of a promo.
They now have pet-immune motion detectors! ;)
