Consumate Victim is Infectious
I think it really depends on the motives of the Victim.
Some very horrible things have happened. No one can change that.
I think that you have to acknowledge they happened, and make reparations.
The ability to step up and stop something like the Holocaust at the time couldn't be accomplished by one man. It really was what World War II was all about. Stopping the spread of a regime that was willing to do things like this.
It is also Scary that the West had to Partner Up with Stalin to get this done. Considering he was willing to do the same things.
Now Canada and the US aren't Saints. The interned Japanese imigrants and citizens might point that out. They were treated like a threat becasue of how they looked. Roosevelt was willing to do this, and he is still remembered for being a great president. And a good Democrat (funny how his family was so rich though)
At the time despite the core belief of American Society, they felt that this was the best thing to do. And ultimately considering the results (they were able to fight the war, and feel secure about security at home) some will argue that the internments were the right choice.
I don't know if they were, I think we could probably argue that things would have been ok with out those decisions. But they did happen. No sense ignoring it, but no sense continuing to beat ourselves up over it anymore.
Should every German citzen whose family did not choose to rise up against Hitler (under the fear of death), and by not doing so "permitted" the Holucaust. NO. Obviously not. I would think that taking time to reflect on what that period meant to man kind when you are asked, or when you stumble across a current reminder would be sufficient.
At the same time there are those that do beleive that certain wrongs can never be righted. I just don't beleive you can function in this world that way.
Much of the bitterness towards the BUSH administration comes from a portion of the Left that will never get over the closeness of the 2000 election. They feel fundementally wronged by this, and are continuing to be VICTIMS of some invented atrocity.
In reality it is probably repressed guilt over the fact that they were so close to keeping power, had they only worked harder, or actually voted they might have made a difference.
Life isn't about the adversity you face, it is about how you deal with it.
Thank god for the economy and the security of the US ongoing that the LEFT isn't so good at dealing with adversity. They adopt a victims stance, insult those who don't agree, and continue to be unable to promote any sort of ongoing positive consistent message.
As they keep this up they just guarantee another 4 years of personal misery as the world goes on with out them.
PS. Thank God that George W. Bush is so evil and powerful that he could only harm Democrats with his decisions related to hurricane Katrina. GWB is so smart. How can anyone deny his genius and NumChuck Skills.
