Conservatives had a hard time winning with this loser at the helm. They should have kicked him to the curb and fronted a new better image to run against the backlash of their record.

He single handedly chased off/turned off every single contender for leadership over the last few years - who's going to take over now? Jason Kenney?

You will always be regarded as one of the worst Prime Ministers of Canada!
He was the opposite of everything Canadian.

He lied and lied about representing Canadian values but he practised divisiveness, lack of accountability and paranoia. He turned Canadians against each other for his own gain. He promoted intolerance of cultural differences and suspicion of anyone different.

He changed the Progressive Conservatives into the Canadian Tea Party.

Back in the day I used to vot Progressive Conservative. But that party hasn't really existed since it's merger with the Reform/Alliance who basically held all the cards. Nice to see them gone.

What else can Stephen do? He woke up this morning, Nenshi is his Mayor, Notley is his Premier and Trudeau is his Prime Minister. I hope someone is keeping an eye on him.

I don't think any other Prime Minister had the knack of pissing off so many constituencies: scientists, lawyers, veterans, judges, environmentalists, civil rights activists, statisticians, you name it. He pissed off so many people that an extra 2.7 million Canadians came out on election day to kick his ass out of office.

Big changes happened under Harper compared to the original Reform / Alliance / Cons. All bad as far as a historical perspective but if look at it from "his base"; he was doing everything right.

The Base just doesn't get that the religious right wing pissed off moderate thinking silent majority such that they were motivated to get the Cons out of office. Now the job of reversing C36 and C51 lay ahead for the Liberals.

I am here.
I was about to write essentially what BBB wrote. Harper had a very strong and loyal base, and he played to that base. He and his advisors, if he really took their advice, missed the point that 60% of Canadians were not in favour of many of his policies.

We can all list numerous things that Harper did since he became PM that upset many Canadians. I was a long time PC supporter, but that changed shortly after Harper took over the reins of the party. I became a very early anti-Harper person. It seemed as if everything he did from picking a fight with the Chief Justice of the SCC, to suspending Duffy without due process, to muzzling scientists whose opinions did not support his position, etc, reinforced my opinion.

Harper is gone. But, make no mistake. Those who backed Harper are still running the Conservative party. Unless the party examines what happened and decides it should be less extreme right wing, it will not change. Harper's speech last night suggested that the far right conservative values are deeply rooted within the party.

It does not bode well for the future of the Conservative Party of Canada if it does not become more tolerant and forgiving.

Al Gores reaction. "Now maybe Canada can go back to being a leader in climate change.".

Yes. Maybe we can all go back to being Canadian now. Goodbye Harper!!! POS!!!!!
haha, when was that? his dad, Mulroney, Chretien, Martin?

or do you mean when there were only a few thousand people here

is he going to stop bringing in a small city, (300,000) worth of people every year?

any other animal on the planet and we'd of culled the herd long ago

population control is what the environment needs

cap and trade doesn't work, hasn't worked in other parts of the world

carbon pricing is already around, hasn't done anything

he won't do anything worth of any substance, just like the others, he craves power too much

Stephen Harper should be commended!

I'm 55.
The last time I voted I was 18.
If it wasn't for Stephen Harper I probably would not have voted in this election to do my small part in saving Canada from his brand of politics.
Thanks, Steve! :thumb:

This exactly.

Hopefully ol' Stevie will get back into his time machine and go to 1950 and take his supporters like Storm Rider with him.

I wouldn't go that far, keep the conservatives but change it from progressive to regressive sounds about right.

It has come full circle for Harper, he got into politics because of PET and now he is ousted by JPT. Kind of ironic.

Only himself to blame. Canada was not ready to see 'ol Stevie in power for the next 4 years.

I think even with all the problems the cons have. If Harper retired and they had a new leader, could have been a much different result last night.

not defending Harper but good luck with the above. C36 - Trudeau is a Feminist and stated that sex work is violence against women. i do hope i am wrong and they amend and/or repeal C36

as for C51. It will not change much and not be reversed. It will be modified as stated by Trudeau.
"Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has strongly defended his party’s decision to vote in favour of controversial anti-terror legislation, saying he was acting in the “best interests” of Canadians even though the bill has flaws."
"Moreover, Trudeau insisted Wednesday that if the Liberals win the Oct. 19 election, they will move quickly to introduce legislation to amend Bill C-51 so that it better protects the individual rights of Canadians."
"He said that he will move “as quickly as possible” to bring in amendments, because he knows Canadians want both “physical protection” and protection of rights.

“As the party of the Charter, as the party that has always understood how important people’s rights and freedoms are, as someone who has demonstrated it on a wide range of issues throughout my leadership, we will move on it very quickly.”
