now, before the I'll-find-racism-even-when-it's-not-there fringe start aiming their flame-throwers,let me say...my work brings me in contact
with young people in Vancouver, which means youth of various ethnicities.
They assure me there's nothing wrong with the term,"halfer"
In conversation, they'll say something like "Grace, you're a halfer, where's your Mom from?
"Grace" will answer, "Philippines/Hong Kong/ Korea"whichever applies.
When I suggested some might be offended by the word, I received looks of incredulity
From my admittedly small sample, but also from rdg on Google, the great majority of Eurasians have Caucasian fathers and Asian mothers, but
that could be another thread entirely.
Vancouver is very multicultural and multi-racial and inevitably produces "mixed" partnerships with the resulting offspring.
In the downtown area, in various shopping malls, where you see groups of young people you'll see Eurasians among them,
almost always very attractive.
I'm very impressed with the open-minded attitude of the youth I'm in touch with, quite a contrast to some of the "adults"
who rant on here.
