Hope you bought insurance on the TV. maybe they sell you the TV and insurance and then steal it back and keep reselling the same TV.

Maybe they stole it from someone else? Was the deal too good to be true?

Hey Fuzz be careful for awhile. I've been ripped off twice after strangers have been in or around my home. Once was the day after a garage sale and I noticed there were two guys looking around suspiciously. The other was when the paving contractors were in the neighborhood resurfacing the streets. Bastards!

I'd never buy a TV from Costco. Maybe someday when they actually back the shit they sell. It's basically a clearing house. On big ticket electronics, last thing you want to deal with is a factory warranty, especially when you're responsible for getting the behemoth to the shop! In-home is the only way to go.

Actually...I bought a TV from Costco recently and they got a pretty good return policy to my surprise.

The TV that I bought had a problem with the audio and video inputs but they didn't have the same tv so they told me to choose one similiar and I didn't even have to pay the difference. Though it is only 1 year for exchange but I thought that was pretty kewl from them switchin it up without asking any questions.

And it felt like the 2 fuckers that brought it were casin' the place.
Wouldn't suprise me, my neighbours had a high priced home theatre system delivered to their house and within a week they were broken into and the system was stolen as well as a number of other things. They suspected the delivery guys probably had something to do with the breakin.

Never throw out all of the boxes at once. A great way to check out a place for theft is to check the garbage.... new electronics boxes in garbage means new expensive toys in the house.

When you do throw out the boxes cut them up and put them into garbage bags so it is not visible.
 You throw out the boxes??? I guess you don't plan to ever resell the stuff. High end equipment without boxes does not fetch nearly the same value as with the box. I have a dedicated box room in the house, but then again I don't yet have kids. :)

As for delivery people, you have to be really careful who you're dealing with. I always take steps to get to know the people I'm doing business with. If possible, I always try to deal with older people. They tend to be more trusthworthy and have less motive to do bad things. Never ever deal with young males or have them to your place. Always ask for the older driver that has had the job for ages.

Man I have never had troubles with Costco for returns. Years ago I bought a cheap E-machine computer from them and used it for about year, the thing kept freezing up crashing or otherwise was just basicly useless. packed it up and returned it no questions asked, no original packaging , just the reciept.

Isnt Costco sort of knowen for hassel free returns?

Gotta agree. I've spoken with some inside people at Costco, and they tell me that even though it is not an openly published return policy, for obvious reasons, you can return anything, anytime, as long as you have the original receipt. If you don't have the receipt, they will give you a store credit. Costco dictates very strict terms from their suppliers, that extends even to the return policy. In other words, returns are covered by the supplier, and if they want to continue to business with Costco, they must honour it, indefinitely. Suppliers see this as a mere cost of doing business, so overall it is a small expense when weighed against the volumes handled.

Maybe I wasn't real clear on the whole Costco thing. They do have a good return policy. But think about it for a sec. You buy a large TV that you need a truck to move. Fucker takes 2 guys to carry it. A year down the road, it screws up. You have 2 options. Get it fixed or take it back for a refund. To get it fixed, since Costco has no in-home service, you have to package it up, ship it to the authorized dealer, which isn't free, then pick it up. To return it, I guess you just bring it back to Costco. Now, if Costco will return or exchange a year-old bigscreen, receipt or not, I'd be surprised.
Either way, my point is that the $99 in-home parts & labour 5-year warranty that I purchased with my set wins hands-down. They fix. They pay. They move. Leaving me more time to watch.
