There no doubt that walmart was the best prices on food...ubless you want bigger portions then Costco is cheaper
I realize this after going shopping with a friend who's Las a low income ..and deffinetly saw the different in prices . Prob saved 25% .. compared to thriftY's or even save on..
Now that not saying they are the cheapest all the time .. you have watch them some time..
I went shopping there today .and notice that food prices were up...frozen pizzas ..we're a 1$ more..hungry man dinners were 2$ higher..that is a big mark up when it was 3.49 two weeks ago..
And I suspect a number of other frozen foods are up..As are the produce..
I was I
A little disappointed. .but of course target is not even close to good food prices.. and I hate to see what my 50$ bill would of been at thrifties

Costco, Superstore and Extra foods hold the title for best and cheapest deals all around.
When it comes to fruits and veggies, however, chinese or E.I stores have everyone beat in my opinion.

Check your closet..:)
Costco if I had a family of 12. Safe On, Safeway and IGA rob you blind. Wallmart and Superstore are my choices.

I shop at Superstore the majority of the time, Safeway for convenience but never Walmart for food. I have compared prices between Superstore and Walmart on health and beauty products and Superstore almost always has either the same price or cheaper.

Like a few other members have said already:

Superstore , SOF , Safeway( only in emergencies) in that order for grocery. Costco somewhere in there occassionally.
Fruiticana for Veggies.
Walmart for other household stuff.
Having said that quality-wise Superstore and Fruiticana aren't always up on the top.

When it comes to EI and Chinese corner stores.....my reference was towards " prices" and not quality. A part from large entity stores.....fruits and veggies. ...farm markets are primo. Example, Langley Farm Market. Excellent produce both prices and quality.

Well I am in victoria and at present live in the city .and have a low income.
Not going to drive 20 min to shop at super store or Costco. .it would cost me 10$ in gas.. and I am only buying 70$ . In groceries ..

Yes.I like the market chain of stories.. and sure thrifties or safe way. .which now is save- on in Victoria may have good produce. But most do place do. .or loss customers.

Costco is great for some fruit. Packs of sliced pineapple. giant containers of grapes/blueberries/blackberries. Good real aged cheese. (love the Dubliner) Cans of Tuna and Salmon. Unsalted mixed nuts. Vitamins.
other fruit places i like is Kins Farms. And the farm fresh apples in season at the Granville Island Market. Other wise i go to Save On and Safeway for what ever is left. Whole foods quality is good but very pricey.

I do a circuit to shop.
Best fruit and produce in the city: The young Koreans running Young's Produce 3000 block West Broadway. Never seen anywhere that comes close to them for price and quality. They do huge volume and so everything is ripe and ready to eat. Check out papayas, mangos, grapefruits etc. Never any banged up fruit, probably better prices than Fruiticana's. (I've never been to one, but will check out). Persian Foods giving Young's a run for their money on W Broadway, and have other locations (Kingsway and Griffith....near a popular building LOL). They have the best yoghurt in town and a great bulk nuts and dried fruit selection and middle east foods. Sometimes fruit an vegetables banged up, which means you can't always rely on them. Costco: 2# espresso beans $11.80 ...(I think it is roasted by Starbucks). bulk nuts, Sunrype Apple juice, almond milk, Take home roast chicken. eggs. And nobody has mentioned T&T in Metrotown. You have to check out that place.

Famous foods for some of the best organic pricing around. Sat mornings 9-1 just off of Willingdon by the Costco. Across the street from the Costco entrance is a wholesaller for organics called Pro Organics. They have wholesale prices on all their produce and items that are getting within the best before dates. Great prices can be found if you are into organic foods.

they are roasted by starfucks, but i think you're off on the price. top price is $22something, but they often offer $5 off that. i haven't seen $11.80 for donkey's years

In Lust Mostly
Veggies - usually Save On since they tend to have excellent quality.
Meats at a local butcher shop since I like to support local non box stores.
Same with fish and cheeses.
I like Thrifty's and Whole Foods but the sticker shock from shopping there tends to keep me away.

Note on Garlic is the stuff stores well in a cool dry environment. I have bought a years worth in August right from a garlic farm and expect it will last perhaps til June or July if I'm lucky. I have done this three years running now with great results. Once you have garlic like this stuff, you will never go back to the Chinese stuff you get at all the big box stores.

I was not abvcating to shop at wall mart..I was commenting on prices that went up an unreasonable amount. .When they claim tone lower priced

As for where any of our food is coming from
If it local produce ..then you know that
But still has pesticides
And some time it just is not that good
Each ti there own ..
I like eating out ..just tasted better then what I cooked

It's like the Fruit sellers and fruit buyers from Safeway/ Save-on get together first. Then they go to superstore and a couple of other stores.

Then all the crap and banged up produce that is becoming over ripe quickly ends up on the shelves of fruiticana.
I agree. I will buy produce and fruit at Stupid Store if i am using it right away, but it has small window when it has to be used by. Save On, Safeway lasts much longer. I have a small produce store close by that is awesome as well, they pick what they buy out of the trucks, and don't buy if it doesn't look fresh. Great prices too.

If you people only knew the shit your buying and eating you'd grow your own
I used to grow my own food and I will be growing it again soon. I only eat organic foods. I made this mistake of buying food at Walmart when they first opened those giant stores and I got food poisioning from the chicken.

Usually Costco, Save On, Whole Paycheque (Foods). Avoid GM foods, corn syrup (in more foods than you think), processed foods, etc. Garbage in / garbage out. That's why I like my SPs to be free range, organic, non-genetically modified, happy ladies :p

Walmart customers are pretty bad too, google People of Walmart.

Costco is good but their produce is bad. For produce I buy from farmer's markets when possible or Superstore. I grow a bit but have problems with rabbits and deer eating everything.
