[Alberta Mod]

Very recently my credibility has been called into question on another hobby related board. While the accusations made are totally false and groundless I am without an effective way to defend myself. As a result I am preemptively removing myself from a Moderator position in the hopes that this will help to stop some of the bogus info being posted. I have sent Perb Admin an email to this effect and asked that the change be made ASAP.

Thanks to everyone who offered their support while I was Alberta Mod.

Good luck in your future Alberta Mod! A lot of people don't realize all the special interest groups that a mod has do deal with, and after they finish rubbing out their enemies, a Perb mod is horrified to see them rub each other off, with him caught in the middle.

On other boards like TERB or that Seattle board, whatsthename again?, the mods tend to last longer.
Perb seems to have some deep divisions that go way back several years and are quite complex.
Before there were Perb mods, all of us just mouthed off and business as usual.
Banning a few hundred guys just seems to have made it much worse if it seems that if you ban a guy, especially some of the more popular guys, they come back the next week with his big brothers and outs you.

Things are getting kind of personal here.

Then you ban them too. And you keep banning them everytime they creat dissention on PERB. Unfortunately only Fred can lock out IPs. That would be a very useful tool for the moderators here on PERB. Once your IP is locked out there is no creating another handle and morphing into some other jerk.

it's also what one gets when the people that can't GET A LIFE who get banned whine about it afterwards..the Mods on other boards last longer because this crap isn't stood for and their decisions are not questioned every 5 minutes..cause people with common sense know that the Mod is not alone when he/she makes a decision..AM is being slammed on the other board by the same loosers who are currently outting me..people speculating and throwing BLAME around as if they have a right to judge situations they know absolutely nothing about is also the cause of a lot of the problems..NOT banning ummm 100's of people..LOL..do you have a counter..give me a break..a little overexageration don't you think?? AlbertaMod, thanks for doing a great job during your short stay here. IMHO, you are the one of the fairest mods I have ever seen with no disrespect to any of the other mods.

For me, I had been contemplating leaving this board for some time now but was convinced to stay a while longer. Most of you have been great, but seeing this kind of stuff going on is making me rethink my position.

We all know about VL and OB's problems with stalkers/harrassers. I always suspected that more would follow but to see mods being harassed with false info is just pure bull. As members of this board we need to stand up and defend these people cause in the words of Bill Goldberg(pro wrestler)......YOU'RE NEXT!!!! Well, maybe not next....but sooner or later you will be targeted by this a**clown too.

You can keep bannign the IP's but they keep using new ones...and how do you get rid of the fact people's personal info is being posted (names and places of employment)....

Ignoring this shit won't make it go away...it has to be dealt with head on...I fought this one alone for awhile...then they targetted other people...I just got written off by people as being a BIG BABY..and dealt with people trash talking me...

I wanted to be a SP...but I don't feel that I should 'accept' this crap as part of my job....

Well VL thats why whoever is in charge has to stay on top of things. As soon as the MOD spots trouble, before it gets a chance to manifest itself that member should be banned. And you keep getting rid of these troublemakers. After a while when they see that PERB can't be used for their own self indulgence i feel they'll crawl back under their rock .

One of the problems i had as MOD was i was to nice. It should have banned about 5 or 6 members from the get go instead of putting up with so much shit. In hindsight what i would do now. Of course the big problem is banned members having the ability to go through the back channel and cry in Fred's ear. I feel that has to stop. --- Kev

LOL..if only it were just that ..it would be a WHO CARES attitude..but as has been mentioned when people start showing up at your home, force you to move, outting real names and phone numbers and Work info..well if you want it..then go for it..you're welcome to it..the board stuff on the most part except for outting of "real" personal info is minor..it's the back channel stuff that is the problem and then those that cause it acting all innocent in open forum..all this Mod did , AM, is just like any other Mod has done..his Job..and all it takes is the whiners who don't know how to behave and when to quit to just make it an unwanted position..

AM, I am saddened you feel you have to leave since you were a fair mod and also since it is what the bullies want.

I don't think the whole supply and demand equation works, when supply is high, prices can still go up, just look at gas.

Pizzapest, both oil and diamond markets operate outside of basic competitive price controls due to heavy collusion via the OPEC & DeBeers cartels, which operate continual artificial price and supply controls. Still, were something unforseen to happen to a reasonable percentage of the supply, I guarantee prices would go up to compensate. Even threats to supply like during the Kuwait fires and Iraq wars affected prices quite a bit.

The same can be applied to any market and SPs are no different, so I see her point. Scare enough SPs into relocation or retirement (7 or 8 now in the last month?), and at some point that change in supply is guaranteed to affect demand and prices.

How many times have we seen a new SP who provides great service and when they start to get innundated with 100 calls a day (the curse of a great PERB review), they jack up their prices (decreaces demend - calls - and also makes them more $).

So while prices won't be affected in the immediate term, I for one do not wish to see how many lost SPs it takes to affect them...

First of all, being a MOD and a posting member can create problems like ending a "ruling" with your member signature or posting and signing with your MOD tag. AM did this unknowingly at first and then more recently on another thread. Hence he was outed already. Being a lurker and I noticed that, so anyone with malicious intent is bound to use this information to their advantage.

Your IP address is logged by operator of the board. This information is usefull to a point but only with a subpoena/court order and spoofing an IP is possible for the more sophisticated user but simply using a dial up account ensures that you get a different IP address most of the times that you log on. Further, there are so many anonymous proxies out there that IP tracking for a bulletin board using standard HTTP/HTML is trivial.

The best way to protect your identity is to watch what you post, how you reply and never give out your email address. When you register on the board, you had to provide an email address and that should have been an Yahoo, Hotmail or other type of address that you can then use to ensure that your true email is never revealed. Never reply of an email from your personal address, always copy and paste your text into a new message originating from the Yahoo or Hotmail address. Reading the detailed header of an email message is the best way to track down exactly where the message originated from and many a anonymous users have been identified via the header and the overall path that a message took. The header gets appended by every relay the message goes through.
