If you don't know a local that can look after you, you will not be allowed into the good clubs and you will most likely be burned. Beware the Nigerians in Kabuki-cho or Roppongi who offer to take you to their clubs - notorious rip-offs where things can go bad (I heven't experienced this first hand but google it). There is a PERB like website in Tokyo - I would try that.
Personally, I have always left it off my agenda, although my Japanese speaking buddy has said he has found a gold mine for our next trip.

I've always heard that white guys do really well in Japan as the girls there like to date white guys. But that's regular girls in the bars/clubs. I've also read that it's almost impossible to meet SP's in Japan as the Japanese are quite xenophobic about that and don't appreciate their women going with foreigners. You can't even get into a brothel if you're not Japanese. So kind of a weird situation.
You are correct on both counts. It is remarkably easy to meet Japanese women in bars and out and about - not so easy to fuck them though as they are pretty conservative. And I was asked to leave a hostess bar in Kabukicho - no gaijin allowed. I understand certain soaplands will accept you if accompanied by a Japanese - the hostesses will probably be Korean or Chinese.

I'm not going to Japan now...I'll be there in October for a few weeks but thanks for the offer of referral, Miss Melody. However, since I'm not even sure I would be able to break away from my primary group, I'm not sure I should be setting up any meetings or committments beforehand. Basically I just wanna know what my options are in case I get the chance.

Was in Japan in fall of 2010. Stayed at friendly inexpensive accommodations in the Ikebukuro area of Toyko.
One night came back from busy day of sightseeing and walked out of Ikebukuro Station, west exit.
Lots of people around going home after work. OMG, the young girls are so attractive. Saw one in early 20s, a busty knockout in a short skirt, walking same direction as myself.
Crossing a street, there were three or four young fellows lolling about, standing around, leaning back on the corner building. A couple of catcalls in Japanese and a whistle or two. A FO shake of the head from her.
My SP spidey sense clicked and I followed this girl, from a bit of a distance. She knew what I was doing. Ahead she turns right into a narrow street, stops by a parking entrance and pulls out her phone.
I don't know a word of Japanese, and I'm wondering if I am presuming too much. So I walk by and turn right a street further up. Walking around the block, I return to her location.

Yeah, thats exactly what it sounds like. I discovered enjo kosai entirely by accident while spending many an hour playing a spot the escort game in front of stations waiting for the last member of groups to show up. It's nearly impossible to tell the difference over there. After much failure we started charging 1000 yen a guess and anyone who actually got one right got to spend the pot on the girl at a later date.
One upside to our failure though is we discovered that while very few of these young hot girls were actually escorts a great deal of them would be willing to play one for the night for a reasonable donation if approached by a similarly aged and dressed girl who pretended to be working herself. Some of my friends actually took these girls shopping and made them pay for their purchases later that night. Way too expensive for my tastes, but I suppose if you are into really long social dates followed by overnighters their method was more cost effective than cash.
Note this is not civilian girls in bars, these are people who we were SURE were escorts but indicated that they weren't. Girls in bars are an entirely different story, easy to pick up, relatively hard to sleep with. If you are white it's not quite as hard, but good luck to you if you happen to be a non-Japanese speaking Asian.
Back on topic, the general sentiments of the reply's here are accurate with regard to my personal experiences.
Not being able to speak Japanese is not an issue. You will be rejected entirely because you are white... or black. It's not the girls or the brothel owners who care about having a foreigner it's the other Japanese clients. Most of these brothels will turn you away as they are unwilling to risk sacrificing their regular clientele in order to entertain a tourist. This is why you will find that many agencies will happily do outcalls, but will be quite rude if you show up in person. If you have a Japanese accompanying you, you may get in just to avoid confrontation, but even those who speak Japanese and are accompanied by a local will find they get rejected more often than not.
Being Asian the OP would likely not have as much trouble getting in, but might have more trouble with the actual girl.

And they are even more predatory than Canadian girls when it comes to having you buy drinks etc. and then taking off on you. Especially the young ones. They act cute and innocent, and know exactly what they are doing.
That's exactly where I was last October (2011). I would think that we may have even stayed at the same hotel. Regardless, the entertainment district when you come out of the West Exit at Ikebukuro Station I believe is known as Nish-Ichiban Town (West Exit, off to the right). There are several sex clubs there that cater to Japanese-only. However, I was regularly approached by street workers and there were some clubs that the Mafia guys were trying to get me into. I didn't partake, as there is usually some hidden cost which is quite exorbitant. In fact, I stayed away from most of these places in other areas. If you don't have any Japanese friends who can show you the lay of the land, you may very well be an easy mark especially if you don't know any Japanese. You probably won't be in danger of any physical harm, just separated from a lot of your money very quickly. I can't say for sure what would happen if you couldn't pay. These are lessons I learned a year earlier when I stayed one night in Ginza before flying home. BTW, the street girls wanted 100Yen "for sex".
While staying in Ikebukuro, I did end up in a massage parlour. I guess you could call it a soapland. Had an interactive soapy massage in a shower room with a huge vinyl-covered massage table followed by more massage on a futon-style mattress. For 200Yen (work that out to be roughly $240) I had a two-hour massage, two shots and was what I would call a decent experience. That said, I could have had a better time had I known some more Japanese. I can speak a little bit of Japanese, but not enough to negotiate an upsell on a R&T session with sexy Nihon-jin lady. But once again, the little head took over. Don't ask me to tell you where the place is, it's by the place I stayed at and that's about all I can remember. Top floor, and the sign on the street has pictures of Anime-style girls with big boobies.
I've heard stories from some of my friends who were there for extended stays and went to "health clubs" which are also known as BJ-bars. I didn't get to experience these, as I still don't really know the lay of the land. Proceed at your own risk. But as also mentioned in this thread, there's no shortage of available Japanese girls who are looking for White guys. There were enough to keep me sufficiently busy so that I didn't need to partake in other stuff. Enjoy! I am already planning a return.
