Thanks a bunch to the recommendation re: edonkey for downloading porn, but now what the fuck do I do as my system is starting to slow down as thick as shit! Yesterday it slowed to a point where my dsl connection was cut Any viagra-type programs to help give my computer a push... or that'll clear out the shit??

Sounds like you have some bad spyware (not that there's a "good" kind)

Try one of the free programs like Ad-Aware. If that doesn't work, you may have to buy something or see your computer tech.

I got a suggestion.
Lose edonkey, since its a slowass piece of crap and a resource hog to boot, and go with bittorrent instead. Also alot of viruses and backdoors on edonkey. And dickheads renaming files so what ya download aint what ya think. Lot of good torrent sites out there, so you should still be able to find enuf to keep ya happy.

If you're on Shaw, install Shaw Secure right away and F-Secure which is part of the package, but must be set up separately. Telus has a similar program. That should put you on the mend. It may take some time, but it is worth it. With all the modules in place, you may notice it takes a bit longer to boot up, and as these systems do run in the background, they will affect your performance somewhat, but the trade-off is a system that is almost bullet-proof.

When edonkey finishes downloading a file it reassembles it and this operation takes up a great deal of resourses but that only lasts about 3 or 4 minutes. The only other thing that could slow down your computer is if you've got too many people downloading from you. Check what the total speed is and lower it if necessary. But if your dsl connection is cutting out I'd say thats something else.

That sucks, I use e-mule pretty much exclusively and have no spyware, fakes, or slowdown problems.

Myabe if you tagged 200 porn movies, but I currently have about 40 things on the go in e-mule and have no problem.

I will admit it can be slower than the 2nd coming of christ some times, but the reliability of the files has kept me faithful to the edonkey network.

All shit needs some configuring, did you raed through the setup process??

Whats your system specs, maybe if your running a P2 with SHAW light, I can see a slow down.

I still say if your a moderate to heavy downloader, or movie ripper a seperate machine is a must. Besides how much does a jank little 3gig celeron system a gig of no name mem and a crappy 15" mon cost?!?!? Fukk all right. Worth it to frre up your main rig, not to mention with expensive components in my main rig I don't wanna leave it running 24/7 Just cuts down on the dust and wear an tear. Who gives a shit about my downloading box though.

I don't even think its the system. A couple of years ago I ran edonkey on my 330 MHZ P2 with shaw high speed and it ran just peachy.

Among the freeware, Spybot catches way more.

If you are willing to pay, XSoftspy has an excellent program for cleaning the shit out, then a handy piece of freeware called Spyware blaster will monitor incoming shit and filter out most spyware. I also use a good free firewall, Zonealarm, and I have it set that I have to confirm just about everything before it can access the Internet. My log of Zonealarm rejected contact attempts numbers in the thousands. If I turn the log on, the number of rejected attempts will increase by 10 or 20 in the time it takes me to peruse the review boards and my emails.

When I installed XSoftspy after using Spybot for at least a year, it found out that somebody had hijacked my browser address. I was momentarily going through an intermediate site before being routed to Google, my homepage. Very tricky indeed!

Now I'm free of Spyware, I think, even though my pesky kids get on my computer fairly often.

Shaw Secure tried to get me to delete my Norton antivirus software because the two systems are "incompatible" - not friggen' likely, mates - I kicked that Shaw Secure right out the window. If their kids can't write a program that will work with Norton, then they don't know what the fuck they are doing!
