I've heard of Free Masons and was wondering if anybody out here could enlighten me as to what a Free Mason is.

Are only certain types of people allowed to join their clubs? How does a person go about becoming a Free Mason?

What are the benefits to joining their clubs?

Any info would be appreciated.

thanks,
Looking

Freemasonary is an esoteric teaching with a geometry that theorizes the spiritual construction of the universe and also one's relationship with the Supreme Being. There are some books on the subject in the libraries of most Mason Temples. The pyramid with God's all-seeing eye on the back of the US one dollar bill is a Freemasonary symbol.

Today, however, mostly, Freemasons are a beneficient group of men who undertake good doings for the less privileged in society. There is a three step initiation process and also a series of additional initiations/ceremonies or degrees. One is awarded a Free Mason's ceremonial apron upon passing the first initiation steps. The final step is initiation into the Shriners who are well known in the USA for their free-of-charge children's hospitals.

You get to learn secrets that go back to The Knights Templar, ancient Egypt and beyond. Of course if you blab any of these secrets, they have to kill you. Just kidding (I think :) ).

Actually what passes for Freemasonry today actually is more like a "club" and even high degree masons have little or no connection to or knowledge of the ancient rites and rituals of early Freemasonry.

I met a guy who claimed to be a member. He told me that it was basically just like a meeting club for guys. He had said that anyone (men only, I'm assuming) could join as long as they go an invitation from an existing member. He offered one to me but I never followed up.

They are one of the last of the mens groups that still don't allow women, the boys want to drink with the boys and those fuckers can sure drink!
There is an allied association for the ladies "The Order of the Eastern Star".

You will find some couples, he in the masons, she in the star.
