The really rich who run construction/property development will make millions.Someone told me today it was just leaked it is actually costing triple what the city said it was .
And it all lands on taxpayers to bail out this shit-bucket.News reports taxpayers are on the hook for $1B for the WC in Canada. Half from fed taxes, the other half to the provinces and municipal taxes.
I guess like all the other cost overruns etc, this is just noise as far as the political system is concerned.
Up the buy in and make it a referendum question to host this kind of thing. This shit cannot be left to politicians who all can be bought. And it all lands on taxpayers to bail out this shit-bucket.
I don't mind paying for things we need -- schools, hospitals etc, but I hate having to pay for any of these 'good for business' bullshit events that just cost me money and result in a reduction in services and an increase in costs!
If I wanted to go to FIFA events in Van I'd be dropping close to $5000 for tickets, accommodations etc. Well, my property taxes this year, after grants, just hit that magic number ... so no support for FIFA from me.
I'd love to see a 10 year moratorium on 'events' that require any infrastructure or funding from taxpayers.
Put the money towards services and helping young people.
Just wait til the games get started and (insert country) wins a game. 🤣 The bandwagons will be flying their flags …This is unlike any other world cup.
Winnipeg has many nationalities.
During WC there are lots of cars with flags on their windows, especially Portugal, Spain, Brazil and Argentina. In the past few days I have only seen one car with flags.
I go for a permanent ban on these activities. And it all lands on taxpayers to bail out this shit-bucket.

Where are all the addicts? Was in the down town east side and yes, there were some nodding out on the sidewalks, and there were 5-10 in some lanes, but nowhere near the dozens and dozens usually congregating in the lanes around the Carnegie Centre. There were more east on Main, but stll fewer than "normal."
