Falling birds ????

So this morning when I opened my blinds I noticed a small bird sitting on the ground close to my sliding patio doors.. At first I didnt think anything of it... however when the bird didnt seems to budge when my cat started to hunt him.. I knew something was wrong.

Quickly I grab my cat and put him inside.. and walk over to the little sparrow to get a better look.. and he didnt look well ..... he was actually slumped over on his side. I pick him up and notice a second sparrow same situation wiped out on the ground.. the second one I thought was dead.. because his wings were spread out and he was litterally face down tail up on the ground so I walk over and to my surprise the second bird is not dead but just.. I dont know just out of it...

So with both little birds in my hands I quicky bring them inside, and activate hand warmers that i place at the bottom of a towel nest I made for them.. and put the nest inside a box.. and place them in the little nest to warm up. I wasnt sure if they flew into something or what ??? I have had the odd bird here and there over the years fly into windows and such and had to calm them down until the could fly away.. but two ???

So after about 45 minutes the birds are all warmed up and alert enough that I feel they are ready to be released.. I walk over to the sliding doors .. and I couldnt believe my eyes.... There were two more sparrows... same situation again on the ground ????

I release the two i cared for and grab the second two... basically did the same thing all over again until they too could be released

any one with any idea as to what might have happened ?????? their wings were ok.. as they did fly away.. and i dont think all four of them flew into a window either because I didnt hear anything ??? and the chances of this happening seem so far fetched.. they did seem completely zonked.. as if they were knocked out or drugged.. and they were lifeless and felt so cold.

I have been checking outside every hour or so all day so far wondering if anymore are going to need some help

I heard that all the dead birds are caused by Americans slowly accepting gay rights.

Last time it snowed a lot out here we got the same thing. Only this time it was a couple of chickadees and a varied thrush. The chickadees came too as soon as I touched them, but the thrush was about to become crow food, so I brought it in and warmed it up. When ready, about 10 minutes later, I released it. The crows were mad. I always assumed that they hit my window in the cold. Not enough to kill themselves, but just because they get cold and can't navigate as well.

Maybe they ate some berries that were still hanging on the vine and fermented. They were drunk.

I must say that when all the news I am hearing is shitty, it gives me hope when I read something like this. Some people do have compassion. Some one, (I can't recall who) said that you can tell how advanced our society is by how we treat our animals!!!

Maybe they are weak from the cold weather we have had?

This website might have some answers: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/
I thought about this.. so I went to the bird store and stocked up on some more food and another feeder.. :) .. one of the first two looked like he might have been a late hatcher... he was much smaller than the other three.. and they do need to eat alot to make it through the winter .... so hopefully if I keep them well fed.. it will help them out and they wont be dropping left right and center all over my yard...

i've heard that putting lumps of suet in the feeder gives them some fuel against the bad weather. not sure what it does for their cholesterol levels though!

isnt that the lard type stuff that they sell in the stores ??? i have some of that that I put on my backyard fence... and I take bread and roll it out and cover the inside with peanut butter and trail mix.. then roll the bread up and cover the outside with more peanut butter and nuts and bird seed... then freeze the whole thing.. and after its frozen I then string the roll in the winter hang it on the trees and the blue jays seem to really love it. I have been feeding the birds all my life and never once experienced what I did today... worried the heck out of me.. Im actually so happy I was running behind my usual schedule and not already on the highway towards dt.. If I was ???????? :(
