Unfortunately, it does happen, in many places, definitely not just Surrey. Yeah, odds are such but also if its a cluster of incidents, it is definitely associated with a small group of individuals.
We as the pooner community need to be aware and need to take some precautions. Things I have done for decades of being in this game, with only 2 bad experiences, neither ending with me getting hurt or losing money just not seeing that particular woman.
- If I am meeting a new SP, I park close by but not in view of the address (as best I can).
- I take only the agreed upon donation plus a potential tip, leave my wallet locked in the glove compartment and have my phone and car keys with me as the only items of value.
- I take care approaching the building, scoping out potential lurkers, folks sitting in cars parked by and so on. If there is anyone suspicious in the lobby of the building, if its an apartment, I'll fake a text that just came in and either hang for a bit for the fucker to leave or I leave.
- Of course there is nothing you can do if you come inside and get mugged. That's your risk assessment at the moment.
- And of course, check perb for any reviews, watch for all the red flags we have all noted, and go with your gut (you are probably right).
- other precautions ... ?
