I used to have a 33 gallon, still do actually, but I used an under gravel filter and it seemed ok. I liked it because I didn't have to keep on replacing the cotton in those regular ones. Does anybody know if those are good or bad at all?
the undergravel are fine but they do not mechanically filter the crap in
the water (it all ends up on the bottom of the tank under the 'filter' and the gravel)
... some do have little filters, but much emphasis on 'little'.

i like them for the bubbles and they allow you to clean the tank easier ...
you hook a suction to the undergravel filter and up it comes ... doesn't
disturb the gravel as much ...

but i would still use an out of tank filter like a fluval ... i typically used one
that was rated for a tank twice the size and cleaned it half as often to
save a little work ...

its way more important to do regular water changes than anything else ...

hey nice tank. i love salt water tanks and fish. wish i still had mine. your panther grouper looks like it has ick though. better nip that in the bud quick. salt water ick will decimate your tank.

I am so jealous. A Nemo tank:)

I will most likely look into one of those tanks in the future.

Here's a question:

Does any of you know how long you have to run a saltwater tank before adding fish? Is the cycle different than a freshwater?

Mine are coming along nicley and developing colour. Getting nice and big.

I'll do some pics when I have good light.

Aaack!!! Never Get One Of These!!

It KILLED a bunch of my fish!!! I'm lucky it didnt wipe out my whole tank!!!

Those jerks at the pet store (CREATURES) might have been responsible enough to let me know this...but nope, greedy fuckers. I know I know I should have researched first blah blah blah, but I was used to the owners of the fish store I regularly buy from (HILLSIDE AQUATICS), who always inform me of what such n such animal will do in my tank before letting me buy it.

This nasty SEA APPLE releases hardcore toxins into the water if it feels like it, just on a whim! Can kill everything in it!! I came home to find some dead fish, and the rest were looking really sick...I frantically removed the sea apple and put it in my "time out tank" with my little green chromis, who soon died as well. I did a major water change and switched to a carbon filter immediately, to absorb any remaining toxins from the water in hopes of saving the rest of my fish. It worked, thankfully, and they are all recovered. Yay!!

So this is just a warning for anyone with/thinking of getting a saltwater tank, or anyone who shops at Creatures!! I will never buy anything there again.

Sounds like the store is run by CREATURES.
