Been riding the seawall for the last three days and as many of you know, about 40% of it is closed in Stanley park. Rumor has it that you guys had a little rain last winter.
Anyway, what used to be a one-way counter-clockwise ride around the whole Park is now a two way, out and back from Denman and Georgia to almost the Lion's Gate bridge. So, what was formerly a very wide one-way path is now divided down the middke and what I observed was people stopping right in the middle of the path to answer their phone or just sitting in the middle of it sending a text message. What is is about people that they lose all awareness of their surrondings when they are using their cells? I saw several near collisions (me once) and predict that sooner or later you will read about a very serious injury caused by something like this.
I had a guy on roller blades following me, both going pretty fast, when this 4-5 year old darts across the path. I was the lucky one and swerved to miss him, but the guy behind me took a dive to avoid hitting the kid. The sound of flesh hitting the hard surface is not a pretty sound. He was pretty banged up but he did control his so fall so he will be okay. Had he hit the kid it might have killed the little guy. Parents can be so absorbed with how cute their kids are, and pay no attention to anything else around them.
