Allright, So moving foward, I've decided to play pretty safe. However I wonder about DATY. It's something that I enjoy and I hear to opposing views on it. Some say its safe while others dont think it is. Which one is it? Even the STI risk chart says DATY is high risk for Syphlis... hmmm i dunno.
Hi dudeharsh123
Sex can be similar to many other things in life were people way up the pro’s and con’s associated with this.
Most people I chat with agree that unprotected vaginal and rectal sex is too much of a risk.
Unprotected oral sex is a common dilemma for many people. As some people feel ok with it and other people do not feel comfortable with the risk.
It really depends on peoples individual risk tolerance which can be determined by peoples past experiences, temperament, social situation e.g. do they have a steady partner etc... It is only a decision you can make. Since sex involves more than one person your partners risk tolerance also comes into the decision on what type of sex is ok.
Here is a link to our risk chart which looks at DATY and other sexual activities.

In regard to DATY and safety, it is much safer than unprotected vaginal sex but not as safe as protected DATY.
Your overall risk will also depend on how common the infection is. In 2009 we had 216 cases of infectious syphilis in BC. This means that your risk to syphilis will be much less than your risk to HPV. The chart only gives the risk if the person has the infection. As syphilis is not common it is more a reminder that if you perform DATY make sure they do a syphilis test when you go for a checkup.
Dudeharsh123 I think it is great that you are getting all the information to make a decision.
