hi,
a bit of a silly question.for all of us involved in the hobby are condom breakages a common occurence? and do such incidents if rare greatly increase your risk of AIDS/HIV in a heterosexual situation as opposed to something like BBBJ? thanks map47

While my response is probably not as good as the HN, I can tell you that on average I have a condom "situation" about 2 times a year. My standard response is to show the client the results of my most recent testing (to ease their mind a little bit) and ask that they get tested as well, as a courtesy, and email me the results. In my experience the clients have been willing to do this, I'm not sure if I am out of line asking...but I think it gives people peace of mind.

Moreover, there are risks when a condom breaks...especially for the SP if the client "finishes" sans condom...there is risks also for "skin to skin" stuff like HSV2/1 etc. HIV and Hep C transmission is possible, but probably not likely, because from what I have read the risks of a single incidence of unprotected heterosexual vaginal sex (as is the example with condom breakage) are about 1/1000, and even less for female to male transmission.

So yes, always better to be safe, but a broken condom is not always the end of the universe. It will probably kill you with anxiety before anything else.

Hi map47

Condoms provide great protections against HIV.

In terms of HIV transmission 1:1000 is a good figure to use for vaginal sex. Remember there are many different things that can change this figure e.g. Is the person taking HIV medication, does the person have herpes or syphilis, is it an acute HIV infection (first 6 months) etc...

Given this number it really depends on how often it is happening. If it only happened once this means you have a 99.9% chance of not getting HIV if the person is HIV positive. If it happens on a regular basis it doesn't take long for these odds to change.

We don't really see HIV being transmitted to men receiving BBBJ.

Hi Chanel Kelowna

You bring up a great point about anxiety. I am seeing a guy at the moment who had a condom break and can't stop thinking about it. High anxiety that is starting to affect his work and personal life.

I could see how showing test results could help a lot with peace of mind. When testing for things particularly HIV it can take a bit of time for things to show up on a test, but a recent test is certainly better than no test at all.

Pregnancy can also be a risk if condoms are the only method used for birth control. In this case you can take the emergency contraceptive pill (morning after pill) up to 5 days after the condom broke to reduce your chance of getting pregnant. It works better if taken sooner.

If a guy is finding that condoms are breaking when used it might be worth looking at what could be causing the problem. Some common causes of condom breakages are the condom is not the proper size, not enough lube, not placed on the penis properly, stored incorrectly (hi temp), past expiry date etc...

Here is a link to information on condoms, it gives a demo as well as a FAQ about using condoms.
