The CHAPS (Community Health Assessment of Men Who Purchase and Sell Sex) Project aims to understand men's experiences with sexual health, and access to care as buyers (clients), whether on the street, in bathhouses and bars, or online in order to inform evidence-based policy and programs. The CHAPS Project is open to self-identified men of any sexual orientation who buy sex or exchange drugs, shelter, food etc for sex in the Metro Vancouver area.

GSHI (Gender and Sexual Health Initiative) and the HUSTLE program at HIM have been recruiting and conducting interviews, but are still seeking more participants. Are you buying sex in Vancouver? Do you know someone who is? We welcome you to spread the word about the CHAPS Project, and contact CHAPS if you'd like to share your expertise!

Participants will receive an honorarium for their time.

If you are interested in participating and would like more information about the CHAPS project, find out if you are eligible by emailing CHAPS at chaps@cfenet.ubc.ca. Additional information at www.gshi.cfenet.ubc.ca/chaps

Guys, the Aesha Project is a supportable series of studies on sex work. Academic researchers like these, whose goals are "to inform evidence-based policy and programs," are the allies of sex workers and clients in the current Canadian political atmosphere.

Participance in this study won't take long, and will gain you a small amount of cash if you care to accept it.

I encourage you to participate!

I'd participate, but my activities are not in the Vancouver market.
The location in BC in which the activities take place does not matter.
When I participated in the interview, the discussion covered all of the lower mainland.

They really need buyers of sex, like all pooners on this board, to participate so that they have comprehensive information on the sex trade in BC.
It's confidential.

My interviewer was very friendly, with no sense of judgement arising... just wanting to know about the sex trade from the john side.
It was less of an interview and more of a conversation, punctuated with true tales, laughter.... a good time while doing a helpful thing on the side of purchased sex in BC.
It's confidential.

No reason not to, fellows... lots of reasons to do it. A push for our side of the prostitution debate.

yeah, But I purchase sex in Alberta. I do wish there were studies that I could participate in (that were not structured as a scam / email harvesting scheme).
From my experience being interviewed, I have the opinion that it really doesn't matter if you buy sex in Alberta for your input as a buyer of sexual services to be useful.
They want to know about the factors and circumstances of the sex purchasing activity, with the province of purchase not really being that important.

I can affirm that this study is authentic and not a scam or harvest.
They take no personal information at all. You are anonymous. You leave no identifiable footprint.
CHAPS is in the same non-government social services building as Aesha.
Aesha has been around for quite a while and does confidential outreach work for women in the sex trade.

I strongly encourage any male purchaser of sex to share their experience and insights for this study.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out why men see prostitutes.
For most it's sexual frustration (not getting any at home, no luck in the dating scene), divorced (bitter with women's attitude and their gold digging ways), sexual addiction (variety seeking men).
That covers most cases, don't you think?

Hi PeaceGuy, as long as you are based in Vancouver or the Lower Mainland you are eligible to participate, regardless of where you purchase sex. If you travel to purchase sex or purchase sex while you are traveling we would love your input. Feel free to reply or email chaps@cfenet.ubc.ca if this applies to you.

Thank you everyone for your support of both the AESHA project and the CHAPS project. We wouldn't be able to get accurate information to be able to inform and change policy without the support and participation of folks like yourselves. We really appreciate your expertise and support.
