Chlamydia and Gonorrhea recovery

Hi HN:

I suspect I have been infected with Chlamydia, as I have noticed watery penile discharge whenever I am not aroused and early in the morning.

Immediately after I have noticed this, I went to see my doctor and ordered Chlamydia and Gonorrhea testing.

My doctor also asked if I wanted to be treated as if I have the above STI, to which I agreed and I was prescribed 1 dose of antibiotics "A", and 4 doses of antibiotics "B"; all of them taken all at once.

This all happened on Wednesday but since I had taken the medication, every morning there is still penile discharge, usually clear. And today, I noticed the discharge is cloudy in color.

I have taken the medication, but it doesn't seem like my symptoms are disappearing. And the discharge turning from watery to cloudy makes me think the situation is actually getting worst.

My question are:

1) When will the discharge disappear?
2) Is a single massive dose of antibiotics enough to cure my (suspected) infections?
3) Is it possible for the infection to re-surface (re-infect) from the time I had taken the medication until now?

I know it doesnt answer your question, but maybe for the safety of others on this site, have you seen a SP lately?

It would be a good idea to go tell your doctor that you still have the symptom and also to find out the results of the previous tests.

It's possible that there are other things that might be causing your problem and it would probably be a good idea to let your doctor figure out what's going on, maybe he has some other tests to do or something.

Quite frankly, I am not sure which is safer. I observed the symptoms after I had a ONS with a newly known friend.

This is turning out to almost be a joke.

So I went to see my doctor last Wednesday to get an update and to check out my test results.

I was very prepared to get a "Yes, you got Clamydia or Gonorrhea" verdict. And to my surprised, the test results showed "No infection found"

So much to my relieve that was.

The following was how our conversation went.

Me: "But how can that be, I still have discharge????"
Doc: "..."
Doc: "Ok, let me see again."
------- Drop my pants and whip out my dick. -------
Doc: "It's wet ok, but what do you want to do now? You have taken the meds, the reports says you are clear. When you pee it doesn't hurt, when I check your glands you are not swollen."
Me: "What do you mean what do I WANT to do now? You are the doctor, aren't you supposed to tell me what I CAN or NEED do?"
------- It is important to note that my pants is still down at this moment -------
Doc: "Can we just "say" you are clear and your case is closed?"
Me: "What do you mean "can we just SAY"? You are the doctor!!!!"
Doc: "...."
Me: "Ok, I guess we can't do much now, I will just observe and come back if it starts hurting."
Doc: "Ok"
--------- Pulled up my pants and left -----------

So here you have it... I am clear, its been two weeks, there's no pain nor swollen glands. But I will go back in a month or two to get a full blown STD test... blood work and all.

Check the stiresource website and located the local clinis - if you are in Victoria it is at 1947 Cook (I think that's the address) across from the Royal Athletic park - go to the STD clinic and get them to check you for it all.

Second opinion doesn't hurt...... well, maybe not too much

When he said that you should have said "Why don't we ask a urologist that question?"

If you still want an answer, go back and get a referral to a urologist.

I had one done about 1.5 years ago on suspicion that I maybe picked up something from a bbbj. Fortunately all was negative. There were 2 tests at the VD clinic. One was the midstream urine collection and the other was the swab.

I guess it was somewhat painful, but more than that it was embarrassing, invasive, and done by a somewhat condescending stranger. I think they pushed the head of the q-tip in a good 1/2 inch or so. It was over pretty quickly.

Nothing I'd care to repeat, that's for sure.

It’s hard to make diagnoses over the internet as we do not know all your information, but I can give you some suggestions.

From what you have written it sounds like you may have had Non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU). People can get discharge from the penis and/or pain when they urinate (pee) with NGU. There are a few bacteria that are sexually transmitted that seem to cause this but we do not test people for these bacteria.

It is very common for us to see this in the clinic. Typically someone will have symptoms like you did, but test negative for gonorrhea and Chlamydia. We usually find for most people that antibiotics would solve the problem.

I am not sure exactly what medication you got but it sounds like the 1 pill was Cefixime and the 4 pills were Azithromycin. Some doctors still give out Ciprofloxacin instead of Cefixime but we do not recommend this as gonorrhea is becoming resistant to Ciprofloxacin.

Cefixime and azithromycin would be enough antibiotic to cover you for gonorrhea, chlamydia and NGU. The only thing is that it can take 1 week to work. I have also found with some people that maybe due to the inflammation in the urethra that it can take a couple of weeks for everything to settle down. Sometimes we have to try another antibiotic if symptoms have not gone away.

The only time you would have to worry about re infection is if you had sex with someone after you took the medication. I am not sure if this is the case.

In men with the symptoms you describe the most common cause is sexually transmitted, but there can be other causes e.g. prostate infection. We would do the same thing as your doctor with testing and treating. If symptoms did not start to get better after 1 week we would try another antibiotic. If things did not get better after this we would refer you to a specialist as it is probably unlikely that the cause of your problem is sexually transmitted.

Has your discharge stopped?

Unfortunately, my discharge did not stop. I was "watery" the first week, but from last week on, every morning I squeeze the head of my penis and white discharge comes out. As well, the urethra seems the itch at night time and in the mornings. The part of the urethra that is inside my scrotum. Usually, I would have to put pressure between my testes to "scratch" the itch.

I did see my doctor today again, and today he asked an interesting question. He asked of what decent was my partner who, persumably, passed the "bug" onto me.

He later explained that its important because some strains of gonorrhea and chlamydia from the South-East Asia may have developed resistance to some antibiotics. He also did mention that the antibiotics that he prescribed previously was enough, unless the bacteria had developed some resistance to the drug.

So today, to confirm if I have the bug or not, he did the swap and prescribed another regimen of antibiotics cocktail for me. 1 dose of Cipro and 1 week worth of Doxycycline.

Going to see the doctor again in another week. I hope everything had stopped in the meantime, so I somewhat deduce that I am STI free before I go see my doctor.
