I wish I lived in Van!

The real stuff, does that include chickens feet? Never could get used to that, even watching people eat them weirds me out. If the answer is yes, are they good and what do they taste like?

You are right about the canadianized version, even I get bored. I now stick to Szechuan, Thai and Japanese food.

Vancouver has so many good restaurants, I'm sooo jealous!! Victoria has good seafood and great Thai, but the rest are totally lacking IMHO. :(

Too true, Paige. We are very lucky to have such a great assortment of international foods to pick from. My favourites, in no particular order, Thai, Indian & Jamaican. Mmmmm, I think I need a snack.

Pak May Guy, a few blocks away is also excellent Hong Kong style. On the west side of Victoria between 41st and 44th. I love their deep fried tiny little whole fish.

Favorite Japanese = Guu on robson.
Favorite Chinese = Sun Sui Wah.
Favorite Indian = Vij's....awesome.
Favorite Thai = used to be simply thai but they went downhill...no favorite for the moment.
Favorite Asian fusion = Asia restaurant on 10th....but last time I went they were closed...for good. Don't know what happened but they were fantastic. Great decor inside and very nice atmosphere.

look 4 the thread long nails and youll know what i mean oppai
Ohh...it's been read...don't worry, you're on my hit list. Actually I was surprised no one mentioned you in my thread asking for Asians with big titties. Cause, from the looks of your pictures...you've got a set! Perhaps when I do finally make the call I'll have to bring over some REALLY good sushi. Tojo, Yoshi, a little place called Yanaki, those are some of my fav's. I really don't like Kamei much...but Tsunami will do. For the buck it is definitely one of the better sushi joints in town, plus you can't go wrong with a little Kaiten-zushi. (where ths sushi goes around on water or rails or whatever...)

Do you mean the bank of Montreal?

If you travelled north, instead of south, you could have went to the Golden Swan instead. Before the block was crawling with Chinese restaurants, the Golden Swan literally put that block on the map.

Vancouver - sort of
Time for me to weigh in with some of my sushi (of course) favourites.

When I want excellent quality, good prices
Nagano - Port Moody (Newport Village) or north side of Coquitlam Centre
Sushiyama - 371 E Broadway, block east of Kingsway (south side)
Samurai - 1100 block Davie St (south side)

When I feel like gorging (all you can eat)
Kisha Poppo - 1100 block Davie St (north side)

When I cry for the location where the term RFE (Raw Fish Experience) was coined by SloRider of Seattle - ASA Sushi was on Commercial but, sadly, has vanished. If anyone finds the chef that was there - Simon Lee - PLEASE let me know where he is. Simon is an artist and a genius at quality and presentation.

No offense sushiman.....but I think you should change your name. Those places are all very mediocre....or perhaps it is just relative. Let me take you out for some real sushi....

best sushi Ive had was in Campbell River, believe it or not. Small place, there for business and stumbled across it when I was walking around. Guy asked if I was from Van, and when I said yes, he said there was no comparison to his sushi. Ended up letting him make whatever for me and he was right. Never have had that good sushi since. Ever since then, try to go to smaller, more cozy restaurants, regardless of type of cuisine. Figure food will be at least half decent, and the conversations you end up having, usually with the owner, is pretty damn cool.

So have you actually eaten at the locations I listed? I would think the owner/chef of Nagano would not be happy should I relate your comment to him.

If you are offering what you call "real sushi", I would be happy to accept that offer. :D

I didn't mean that as a dis to any of those places, I have only been to Sushiyama (korean owned....not that there is anything wrong with that), and Samurai. I've also been to Kisha Poppo...not a big fan. I guess because I've had the same sushi as that in so many places, it's nothing special. It takes really good sushi to make me notice these days. As you said though, for what they charge it is not bad at all. But I just find it to be mediocre sushi.
