I went to purchase a New Honda accord but there was a particular colour I like and it was not in stock at that time. The salesman told me to give him a deposit of $500 and in two weeks the car with colour of choice will be delivered.

Two weeks later the salesman told me that the it will take one more week before the car will arrive. I got upset and told him perform what he promised. He offered the $500 back, and cancell the deal.

I waited for two weeks and do not wish to get the money back. Can any one tell me what should I do to push this dealership, beside waiting one more week to get the car.

I had to go through this once. The car was being driven to the dealership from many many KM's away. When it arived at Flag Chev (I shudder every time I hear that name) the finish on the car was trashed. They offered to re-paint it. I was like WTF.....re-paint a new car, go fukk yerselves.

They tossed that car in the garbage....for all I cared. I started over and looked around and just bought one off the lot at Flag.

First Q I would ask if I were you JBR is hows the car being shipped here??? Car carrier, or driven by the pimply faced lot boy who's flooring it at every light and having a smoke and a Pepsi in yer brand new to be car?!?!?!?

I know I was a car jockey when I was 18 at MCL. We wern't easy on the cars at all.

It's not a scam... its common practice..

Same thing happaned to me. I put down a $2000 deposit on a new Benz. It was over 2 months late. The dealership uses the famous 'pass the blame game'

"Germany had trouble getting them on the boat on time" blah blah blah.

Talk is cheap.

The truth is if the dealership were upfront and said "Yeah pal, it'll take 4 months for your car to get her" You'd probably walk. That's why they lie and take a deposit. The dealers have been in this buisiness for years, and they know it inside out. They know exactly how long it'll take. A good rule of thumb is to take the time they tell you and double it.

What else do you expect from a car salesman??

I worked in a dealership for many years in the parts dept. There is not too many instances that I was aware of where people were running up the miles on cars trying to get them here. If they had to come from Alberta etc. they were put on a train and shipped out. Honda has all there cars brought in by car carriers on the Fraser river. Basically your at the mercy of the transport companies. Honda has a system where they can tell you where every new car is at in the country. Call their customer service line with details of car, model number, etc and they can tell you if any other dealers in the lower mainland have this car available. Your dealer could tell you as well if they so desired. One thing you do have to remember is the salesman is working on commission and he doesn't eat until he sells cars. So I would hardly thing he would be giving you money back if it was an easy one to find. Hope you find it.

talk to the principal of dealership - principal (owner)

He's the one who trained his employees to do that!!

He'll look interested while you shit on him, then after you leave he'll give that salesman the employee of the month award.

They are all in cahoots

Usually its the Sales Manager or GM that trains the guys to suck people in ..then make it sound like it was a mistake.. then you re-settle on something to make you happy, but they have the sale..

Sales Tactics are different at a dealership as many customers only purchase a few vehicles in there lives.. whereas if you were selling something again and again you need a differ approach.

The Principal will usually have nothing to do with day to day business..but is always interested in hearing complaints. What I suggest you do is go to a dealer in another town and talk to there sales manager..often they are more than willing to help you find the right person to talk to.. as they are franshises maybe owned by same principal but thats Sales Manager is more than happy to make is counterpart look bad ..to make is managment team look better. Chances are he has had it done to him.... so fly ater

Let me get this straight, the salesman can control train schedules, union problems, loading and unloading of ocean liners and a host of other daily occurances. He offered your money back and you are out nothing but the two weeks waiting. I would have to say that you have too much time on your hands if you are going to whine about waiting another week to get the car you wanted at a price that you are happy with. Shit happens, deal with it!!!!

I dont think its about him having too much time on his hands.. its just a regular accourance to get the deal done. I cannot speak for him, but I would think more principal.

I am suprised though they took a deposit. Usually, you say you want to see the car in its color no obligations....

Nobody in the dealership can control the speed of delivery on a factory ordered vehicle. It is the sole responsibility of the manufacture to satisfy prompt delivery of the unit to the respective dealer, they will not ship the unit until it becomes cost effective. Another words they are not sending one unit per dealer they will have a route and delivery schedule planned that may include picking up and dropping off inter dealer transfers and some backtracking with your vehicle before it actually reaches your point of purchase.

The manufacture will suggest an approximate delivery date and time, and should provide a tracking number and 800 number you can call to find your vehicle.
