Has anyone thought maybe after all of covid is done with that Canada perhaps will shut never want a repeat and close the border for good like North Korea? Just think of how well off the country for its health's sake if no one from the world was let in. If the citizens leave and return they will have to quarantine 14 days no matter what. Its would help Trudeau know he has all its citizens safe and sound. The country can just let the hotels and tourists industry go, there are lots of alternative energy jobs to go around now that Pipeline XL is done for.

The people laid off can retrain just like the oil workers in the States, maybe the country can just pay the laid off workers salaries for a couple of years while they all go to vocational school or just offer a early retirement package.

1st world countries have this luxury, we can travel to anywhere but you can't come in and bring virus or disease in. The money is not needed from your stays.

Any thoughts?

Complete closure for good. No one is coming in unless its to deliver goods or a pro athlete. Maybe an concert performer once a while. The country still needs some entertainment.

Canada would set the course for a safe new world this way. Other countries may follow. Or those that can afford it.

Not trying to be rude but thats one of the most stupidest ideas I have read. We live in a free country and the government shouldn't have a control over how or where people travel. Secondly, we live in a globalized world and suddenly stopping connections with rest of the world is not gonna work. If it did NK would be better off than what they are right now

If I thought of it I am telling you someone in Ottawa or Washington DC has thought about it. They just don't want to make the headlines.

No, I think this is more in line with some kind of Q Anon/Alex Jones type thinking, outside of the far right, Canada has never subscribed to isolationism.
It would be nice to keep Alex Jones & Qanon type of thinking at the border but that is wishful thinking.

I agree if it is brought up online it must be from one of those extremists websites left or right not connected into reality.

The reality of global supply chains and interdependent economies make this impossible.

I have been to Tijuana twice since covid . Before Covid when you came back to the States you could tell the agents you went to the bar district. They knew it was the red light district not " bar" district. They don't care, one time an agent asked me " how was Hong Kong bar". Its completely different mentality there, let and let live down South. When I come back to the States by myself from Canada I am playing Russian Roulette even with Nexus. I have been sent in for inspection grilled sometimes about who, when where. I get pretty nervous coming back. If I get caught coming back to the States I could go to jail, lose my job or future jobs.

Can someone tell me why the North USA agents are so tough and the South agents are so easy going?

This past year during my 2 trips to TJ, I was not even asked upon return what I was doing there. Showed them my Nexus and told to go. I did not have to show proof I was there for essential travel like Dentist or MD visit or to see a dying relative.

My guess is the border agents down South is busy catching illegal criminals to cross into USA while the ones in North have huge ego with less things to worry about. My cousin always had tough time at the border whenever she tried to go to see her boyfriend in Seattle. They always asked to see her phone and went through every photo and app.

I think the reason they gave her a hard time is because its usually the other way around. Guy drives to see GF. So a lone female saying that raises red flags. Under Biden and the Democrats rule you can sue for racism or xenophopia or something. The left has you covered.

The reallity of a Nexus Card is that you are already pre-approved to go through the border. If they are grilling you as a Nexus card, they suspect you of doing something.

As for the North guys grilling us more in the north, traditionally it has been through Canada that most forged passports pass through on. Canada's multiculturalism is to blame. Just not white people anymore... So if you are coloured, chances are you are being sterotyped by those custom agents....

Canada is a rich country in mineral resources, but depend on companies to forge the way into the wilderness to find them. Giving those companies immense profits from the mineral wealth, with little taken back for the Canadian people even through taxes.

The problem with Canada is that its a large country with little population. Its not an entrepreneur country. as most ideals for marketing go south to the states. Also there is the brain drain of university graduates to the states. Canada also has a large infrastructure to maintain, which is only getting worse.

Then there is the money drain the states (ie snowbirds). So Canadians spend an entire lifetime of savings in the states and not in Canada, all because they don't like the cold.

Energy resource are awesome with tar-sands and other oil patches. When a high-school girl can come up with solutions to tar-sand pollution; shows how much care the oil industy cares about pollution, and lack of Canadian entreperneurship is in Canada, because some university student could of come up with the same solution 30 years ago. It just shows how backward our country is. Where the priority is? Not with being Canadian and supporting Canada overall. It about your pocket book and what serves the individuals' bank account.

Its about companies maximizing their profits. One way is to pollute the environment. The inspector of a plant comes in and the employees turn on the environmental saving shit, whent he inspector leaves the employees turn off the enviro stuff; and save on money making more profit for the company. If you want a job you keep your mouth shut.

In the last 30 years companies have been slowly getting rid of union workers with high wages and benefits. First by cutting benifits, and by eliminating union jobs, the same job has to be preformed, but the actual person doing that job gets paid less.

Contract work for goverments in fact is more expensive then civil employees. First off the company makes a profit and secondly the employee doing the job does not get benifts and gets paid a lower wage. The reality is the company is making the money. So instead of 1 employee with benefits, you have a company with 1 employee with owner making most of the money. In the long run this cost the government more in the long run, but it cost less in the first few year after getting rid of the union employee and that persons benefits. Also the work of the contractor is always suspect or not up to standard. The reason it is more expensive in the long run is that now government is paying 2 people, the owner and the new lower wage worker for the same job.

Another reason unions are failing is due to the limits of the right to strike due to, you guess it "essential service". Which means governments, when there is a real problem can ignore it, no matter what the union employees say. Fuck which really gets me mad, as they are listening to the needs of aborignals and their land claims....or geeze another reason Canada should be considered a poor country....

Another thing is work ethic.... nobody wants to be a slave.... working long hours doing shit work at a high pace, with little pay like an McDonalds employee.

Mostly the wealth goes to the 1%ters....
