Calgary vs Edmonton

I think I will choose......... BOTH!!!
I really fell head over heals in love with Calgary, and was thinking of buying a home out there. Edmonton and Calgary are just hours away, and a flight is less then 1 hour, so I could live in both cities. Could someone please give me some info regarding location good area's and not so good area's.

You won't find much in Mount Royal or Elbow park for less than 1/2 million, unless it's a teeny tiny apartment condo in a 30 year old building, or a broken-down 50 year old shack. Land values alone in those parts are skyrocketing.

I have friends who have one of those newly built "duplex" type units - basically two small luxury homes together on the same lot - they live in Kensington, and they paid over $500 G's there - put that same unit downtown or Mount Royal, it'd be worth even more.

As far as Springbank goes, nothing but super-rich oil tycoons and business types live out there. Most homes are in the $900,000 to $2M range and up.

Calgary's great, Ash, but unless you're willing to live on the outskirts (Tuscany NW, Mackenzie SE, or the like) or in an older home, or in the NE, where property values are much lower (and the neighbourhoods not so great), plan on spending humungous dollars to buy a home. The market here is just insane.

Not all of the NE is slums, I can name a few nice area's that have reasonable housing costs in around the 250's

Kincora
Creekside

One real nice affordable area in the Nw is Hawkwood either The estates or behind... I hope you pick the Estates we could be neighbours

Maybe not all of the NE are slums, but anything east of the deerfoot (#2 highway) are generally cheaper to build or buy in. Those areas west of the the deerfoot are generally considered the NW from a realty point of view. The areas you named belowed are considered NW, as some of them are west of centre and all are west of deerfoot.

The pricing in Kincora and Sherwood is definitely above 250k!

I think what I will do is rent an appartment downtown and travel between the two cities.That way I get to know Calgary(people included) and then I can choose an area that appeals to me.

Downtown is the place to be Ashley and its cheap as well. I live in a building at 7th avenue and 9th street which is convenient for getting to Kensington, 17 avenue and Stephen Avenue. You are smoking and I really want to see you. Move in next door
